IPL 2016, Stats: Rohit, Pollard script perfect chase for Mumbai Indians to give 6-wicket win over RCB
In the previous Indian Premier League (IPL) season's fixture between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers made merry with an unbeaten 200-plus stand at the Wankhede Stadium. However, the match did not end in RCB's favour this time around as the Mumbai Indians chased down the target of 171 set by RCB.
Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers looked liked they would help their side post a massive total at one point of the time in the innings. However, the Mumbai bowlers pulled things back brilliantly to restrict the visitors to a score of under 200. Krunal Pandya swung the pendulum Mumbai's way as he dismissed both Kohli and ABD in one over.
In reply, Mumbai captain Rohit scored his second fifty of the IPL to set the right foundation for the chase. Although Rohit was dismissed, Jos Buttler and Kieron Pollard scored two quickfire knocks to finish the game off and reach the target with two overs left.
Here are the major stats from the game:
1 – This was the first time in the last five T20 innings that Virat Kohli has missed out on scoring a half-century.
2 – Only Virat Kohli and Harbhajan Singh are the two players to have featured for the same team in all nine seasons of the IPL.
4 – Krunal Pandya became the fourth bowler to dismiss both Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in the same over in the IPL. Jacques Kallis, Dhawal Kulkarni, and Ashish Nehra were the other three bowlers who achieved the same feat.
