IPL 2016: Yuvraj Singh promises cancer survivor that he will hit 6 sixes again

The 34-year-old India international, Yuvraj Singh who scored a quickfire 24 ball-42 against the Kings XI Punjab to guide his IPL franchise, Sunrisers Hyderabad to a seven-wicket victory was a part of a charitable event that was conducted in Mohali last night. A cancer survivor himself, India's 2011 World Cup winning hero was seen giving some essential tips to 17 children who had fought a long battle with the potentially life-threatening disease.

Among the 17 selected children who were a part of the interaction at the IS Bindra PCA Stadium in Mohali, most were aged around 7 to 8 years. Earlier Yuvraj's team, the Sunrisers Hyderabad, almost booked themselves a playoff berth in the 2016 Indian Premier League at the expense of the Kings XI Punjab.

Powered by Hashim Amla's 56-ball 96 and David Miller's 9 ball-20, KXIP had posted a formidable 179 on the board. However, David Warner's quickfire 52 and Yuvraj Singh's match winning 42 made the target seem relatively easy for the Hyderabad-based IPL franchise.

The 34-year-old who had hit 3 boundaries and 3 sixes to steer the Sunrisers a step closer to the playoffs, had to face a bouncer when a youngster asked him whether he could reenact the feat that he had achieved in the inaugural World T20 in South Africa- hit six sixes in a single Stuart Broad over against the Three Lions.

“(If) you pray, I will hit six sixes again,” Yuvraj Singh replied. The left-handed batsman even revealed the fact that he still doesn't know how he had managed to pull that incredible feat off. “Many years have passed since then,” he added.

An eight-year-old cancer survivor who had been diagnosed with the disease when he was just 18 months old told the press, “I love cricket and seeing Yuvi (Yuvraj) and Suresh Raina in action gives me immense joy.”

Yuvraj also gave a few valuable tips to the cancer survivors as he told them that fighting against a disease such as cancer teaches one not to take his/her life or family or friends for granted. “Think of it as a blessing in disguise that you have an opportunity to live again,” he added.

Yuvraj was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in 2011 and has made a complete recovery.
