The bowling unit failed to create any impact in the first innings and were hammered for 195 runs in the 20 overs, courtesy a brilliant half century by Aaron Finch. were hammered for 195 runs in the 20 overs, courtesy a brilliant half century by Aaron Finch.

The second league match between the two sides witnessed another hero for the Delhi Daredevils as Iyer, single-handedly took his team over the line.

Take a look at the performances of the players in this exciting contest:

Delhi Daredevils

Sanju Samson – 2

Sanju Samson has been the most consistent performer for the Delhi Daredevils throughout the tenth edition but unfortunately for him and the Delhi outfit, he was dismissed for 10 in the second over of the run chase. The 22-year-old has been the mainstay of the batting unit and his early departure dented the visiting side in this huge chase.

Karun Nair – 5

The stylish batsman was at his very best in his 15 ball stay as he scored 30 runs and made full use of the field restrictions. The 25-year-old was involved in a 57 run stand for the third wicket with Shreyas Iyer but failed to convert his good start into a big score.

Rishabh Pant  – 1

The exciting left-hander, Rishabh Pant had a very short stay at the wicket as he was run out by Suresh Raina off his second ball. The wicket-keeper batsman announced his arrival with a boundary off the first ball over mid-wicket but was out the next ball largely due to his negligence to make his ground.

Shreyas Iyer – 8

Shreyas Iyer anchored the run chase for the Delhi Daredevils

The flamboyant right-hander, Shreyas Iyer came into bat with the score reading 15 for the loss of two wickets, and single-handedly kept the Delhi Daredevils in the hunt. The 22-year-old scored an explosive 96 runs in 57 deliveries including 15 fours and two maximums to guide the visiting side in this huge run chase. Iyer anchored the run chase and ensured that his team got over the line with a couple of deliveries remaining.

Marlon Samuels – 1

The West Indian failed with the bat and was out for a solitary run in the four balls he faced courtesy a brilliant direct hit by Ravindra Jadeja.

Corey Anderson – 2

The all-rounder from New Zealand could not perform well with both bat and bowl as he was smashed for 19 runs in the couple of overs he bowled. With the bat, Anderson just managed to score a run-a-ball six before being run out by a direct hit from Jadeja.

Carlos Brathwaite – 2

Carlos Brathwaite had a horrendous day with the ball as he was smashed for 38 runs in his four-over spell. The West Indian scalped the wicket of Dinesh Karthik on the first ball of the 17th over but failed to restrict the scoring rate. The 28-year-old disappointed with the bat as he was caught and bowled by Dhawal Kulkarni for 11 off 10 deliveries.

Pat Cummins – 5

Pat Cummins has been sensational for the Delhi Daredevils in this edition of the tournament but failed to create any magic tonight as he was expensive in his four overs. The Australian fast bowler picked up the big wicket of Suresh Raina in the power play but could not make any more inroads into the formidable batting unit of the Lions.

He returned with figures of 1 for 38 in his quota of overs. Although Cummins failed with the ball, he made a huge impact with the bat as he stitched a vital 61 run stand with Shreyas Iyer for the seventh wicket, scoring 24 runs off 13 balls.

Mohammed Shami – 4

Mohammed Shami, the right arm medium pacer has been off-colour with the ball for the Delhi Daredevils in the tournament. The 27-year-old is coming back into the side after a long lay-off from the game due to injury and has struggled to find his line and length. He was expensive in his four-over spell and conceded 36 runs but took the wicket of Aaron Finch in the penultimate over of the innings.

Zaheer Khan – 7

The veteran Indian speedster got all his experience into play as he was the pick of the bowlers for the Delhi Daredevils. The skipper was outstanding with the ball and used the slower delivery to the fullest as he built pressure with a good line and length. The left arm pacer gave away just 30 runs in his four overs and was extremely economical in the context of the game.

Amit Mishra  – 6

Mishra has struggled with the ball throughout the tournament and it was no different tonight as he failed to bowl his full quota of four overs. Being the only spinner in the playing XI, Mishra was dismal with the ball as he was taken apart for 27 runs in two overs.

The only solace for him and the Delhi outfit is the run out opportunity he grabbed to dismiss the dangerous Dwayne Smith.

Despite his failure with the ball, Mishra was the hero for the Daredevils with the bat as he scored two boundaries in two deliveries to help his side get over the line.

Gujarat Lions

A rare failure for Smith at the top

Dwayne Smith – 1

After a match winning 74 runs in the last match against the Kings XI Punjab, Dwayne Smith failed to give the Gujarat Lions an ideal start at the top of the order as he was dismissed in the third over of the innings for a run-a-ball 8.

The 34-year-old was slow to get off the blocks as he attempted a quick single and was run out by a fair distance by an Amit Mishra throw from short fine leg. Smith was expensive with the ball as he was smashed for 17 runs in the only over he bowled.

Ishan Kishan – 7

Ishan Kishan, the 18-year-old from Jharkhand, has impressed one and all with his fearless attitude and big hitting ability. Opening the batting with Dwayne Smith, Kishan made optimum use of the power play and attacked the bowling unit of the Delhi Daredevils. The southpaw scored an aggressive 34 in 25 balls with five boundaries and one huge six.

Suresh Raina  – 5

The batting unit of the Gujarat Lions was heavily reliant on Suresh Raina to shoulder the responsibility in the absence of the experienced Brendon McCullum. The skipper, however, failed to deliver and was bowled for 6 runs in his 5 ball stay by a fast, full-length delivery from Pat Cummins. Raina made up for his batting failure with a brilliant direct hit to get rid of dangerous Rishabh Pant early in the run chase.

Dinesh Karthik – 8

Dinesh Karthik has been in sublime form throughout the domestic season and continued his good work in the tenth edition of the tournament as he smashed a quickfire 40 off 28 balls.

Coming to bat at number four, the wicket-keeper batsman anchored the innings along with Aaron Finch to set a strong platform for the Gujarat Lions in the back end of the innings. The duo was involved in a crucial 92 run stand for the third wicket to set up a huge first innings total.

Aaron Finch – 9

Aaron Finch top scored for the Gujarat Lions

Aaron Finch is regarded as the most destructive opening batsman in the shortest format of the game. However, the Australian has been handed the responsibility of batting in the middle order for the Gujarat Lions and he has been decent for them throughout the tournament, playing some crucial knocks down the order.

The 30-year-old took the attack to the opposition and scored an explosive 69 off 39 balls with six boundaries and four huge hits over the fence to help the home team post a huge score in the first innings. He was particularly severe on Amit Mishra as he clobbered the leg-spinner for two consecutive sixes in the ninth over of the innings.

Ravindra Jadeja – 8

Ravindra Jadeja has not set the stage alight with his performances with the ball but he has been brilliant in the field for the Gujarat Lions, giving them crucial breakthroughs with his sharp fielding.

He was outstanding in the point region today with two big run-outs of Marlon Samuels and Corey Anderson in the middle overs. The wickets put the brakes on the scoring rate of the Delhi Daredevils in the massive run chase. The left-hander also contributed an unbeaten 13 down the order in his 7 ball stay to help the Gujarat Lions reach a huge first innings total.

James Faulkner – 4

The most experienced bowler for the Gujarat Lions was expensive in his four overs as he conceded 39 runs but picked up two wickets. Faulkner failed to find his line and length and was taken apart by the batting unit of the Delhi franchise. The finisher with the bat for the Gujarat Lions scored a quick fire 14 off 8 balls to give the Lions some much-needed impetus in the back end of the innings.

Dhawal Kulkarni – 6

Dhawal Kulkarni was the pick of the bowlers for the Gujarat Lions as he gave away just 30 runs in his four overs. The right arm pacer picked up the important wicket of Carlos Brathwaite in the middle overs to jolt the Delhi Daredevils in the run chase.

Basil Thampi – 1

Basil Thampi has been the find of the tournament for the Gujarat Lions, however, the right arm medium pacer had a dismal day at the office as he was smashed for 43 runs in his four-over spell.

Pradeep Sangwan – 2

The left arm medium pacer was brilliant with the ball in his first spell couple of overs and scalped the big wicket of Sanju Samson in the second over of the innings. In the third over he bowled, Sangwan was clobbered for 17 runs by Shreyas Iyer and Pat Cummins to give the Daredevils much-needed impetus going into the back end of the innings.

Ankit Soni – 0

The services of the leg spinner were surprisingly not used by Suresh Raina in this high scoring encounter. However, Soni committed a blunder in the field at short third man and the misfield resulted in a boundary for Mohammed Shami.
