IPL 2017: Highest run scorers, wicket-takers after Delhi Daredevils vs Rising Pune Supergiant
The Delhi Daredevils beat the Rising Pune Supergiant by seven runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi. The result has opened up the tournament and even as every team is left with just one match, three playoff spots are still not confirmed. The penultimate match of the league stages - that’ll be played between Rising Pune Supergiant and Kings XI Punjab - will virtually be a knock-out tie for the teams involved.
After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Zaheer Khan’s DD scored a total of 168/8 at the end of 20 overs last night. The team might be out of the playoff contention, but they definitely displayed a strong batting and bowling prowess yesterday.
Karun Nair played his part with a well-scored 68 while captain Zaheer Khan and seamer Mohammad Shami followed suit by scalping two wickets each. Steve Smith tried to get a start with his quick 38 in the second innings but could not see his team through.
Ajinkya Rahane’s miserable run with the bat continued as he was removed for a golden duck. M. S. Dhoni suffered a late run out thanks to Shami’s direct hit, after which the match tilted heavily in DD’s favour. Manoj Tiwari played his part but could not get the job done in the last over bowled by Pat Cummins. The Delhi crowd were thus treated to their home team winning yet another match.
Let us look at the leading run scorers and wicket takers after DD vs KXIP.

If anyone has a realistic chance of overtaking Warner as the orange cap holder, it’s either Shikhar Dhawan or Gautam Gambhir, provided both SRH and KKR manage to make it to the playoffs. However, Dhawan and Gambhir would have to play out of their skins for that to happen, as Warner not only has a prominent lead over everyone else in the table but also looks hungry for more.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been at the top of the purple cap table for a long time now and like his captain, looks like the only realistic contender to end the tournament at the top of the table. Jaydev Unadkat though has played four matches lesser and has overtaken his teammate Imran Tahir to take up the no. 2 spot.
