IPL 2017: Highest run scorers, wicket-takers after Gujarat Lions vs Mumbai Indians

Bumrah was the show stopper yesterday

If there’s one thing that has been constant in this Indian Premier League, it’s that whenever the Rising Pune Supergiant and Mumbai Indians play different matches on the same day, they both end up winning their respective games. The two times they have played against each other, RPS have beaten MI.

Hence, it is safe to say that the Mumbai Indians playing on the same day is a function of Rising Pune Supergiant winning that day.

Yesterday, in the first match of the day, RPS beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore by a massive margin of 61 runs. The star batting line-up of RCB failed again as they were stranded for 96-9 at the end of 20 overs. Virat Kohli, who scored a half-century, was the only batsman from the visitors to get to a double figure score.

Rahul Tripathi, Steve Smith, Manoj Tiwari and MS Dhoni contributed in taking the RPS score to a fighting 157/3 in the first innings.

The second match of the witnessed the first super over of IPL 2017 and seventh of the IPL overall. Thanks to some electric fielding by the Gujarat Lions, Mumbai Indians went from 80/1 to 153 all out. Two direct hits from Ravindra Jadeja in the last over set up the super over.

James Faulkner then bowled pretty well, taking 2 wickets and giving away only 11 runs. Jasprit Bumrah however, was the show stopper yesterday and bowled an impeccable over to two of the most destructive batsmen in the world, Brendon McCullum and Aaron Finch.

They could make only 6 runs in their super over, just two of them off the bat. Bumrah bowled a no-ball and a wide in the over, and yet managed to take his team over the line with some fiery yorkers and sensational slower balls.

Let us look at the leading run scorers and wicket takers after Gujarat Lions vs Mumbai Indians.
