IPL 2017: Highest run scorers, wicket-takers after Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Kings XI Punjab

David Warner still has the orange cap after his blistering century against KKR

Delhi Daredevils, Rising Pune Supergiant and even Sunrisers Hyderabad were hoping for the fractured Royal Challengers Bangalore batting line-up to click once so as to eliminate Kings XI Punjab from the race to the playoffs. However, the fracture stayed in place and RCB couldn’t even limp towards the meagre target of 139 set up by KXIP.

Glenn Maxwell’s men bowled their heart out to defend their low score of 187/7 and managed to win by a 19-run margin. Axar Patel’s all-round effort helped KXIP take a further step towards the playoffs. He scored a crucial 38* off 17 balls and gave just 11 runs in 3 overs to pick up three wickets. Sandeep Sharma also scalped three wickets, one of which included the Virat Kohli. The trio of Kohli, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers failed to create an impact yet again as all of them returned to the pavilion with single digit scores.

The Kings XI Punjab now have 10 points in 10 games and the Royal Challengers Bangalore now threaten to share the ignominious record of winning the least number of matches in a season with Deccan Chargers and Delhi Daredevils. The team has won just two games till now and needs one more win from its remaining two games to stop that from happening.

Let us look at the leading run scorers and wicket takers after the RCB vs KXIP game.

Today as SRH takes on the Rising Pune Supergiant, both David Warner and Bhuvneshwar Kumar will have the chance to retain their orange and purple caps respectively. The game is extremely crucial for both the teams and might as well be treated as a quarterfinal.

The batting display from both KXIP and RCB was so mediocre yesterday that the list for the top 10 run-scorers stayed the same as the day before. The purple cap list was altered though as Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal found their way in to the top 10. Axar Patel’s best figures of the season came yesterday and he now has 13 wickets in 10 games.
