IPL 2017: Kevin Pietersen to do commentary during IPL 10

Pietersen withdrew from the auction in February 2017

Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen will be seen as a commentator during the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. The 35-year-old took to his Twitter handle to confirm the news, stating that he would be in India for the first, fourth and the final week of the eight-team League.

In case you didn’t know...

In February earlier this year, Pietersen withdrew from the 2017 IPL auction, stating that he had a busy winter and hence wanted to spend some time with his family in April and May. He was released by the Rising Pune Supergiant, ahead of the auctions. He played for the Quetta Gladiators in the second season of the Pakistan Super League.

The heart of the matter

This will not be the first time that Pietersen will be seen in the commentary box, giving his views on the game. During the Australia vs South Africa series last year, he was seen airing his views and he has also been a part of the Big Bash League coverage.

What’s next?

Ever since playing in the League for the first time in 2009, Pietersen has been a staunch supporter of the League as it brings some of the best players in the world on the same platform.

After having thrilled the spectators with the bat in hand, it will be interesting to see how Pietersen fares with the microphone and whether he can be as innovative in the box as he was with the bat during the course of his playing career.

Author’s Take

In the 9 years of the League that have gone by, few players have captured the imagination of the public as much as Pietersen. Regardless of the team that he has played in, his performances in games were something everyone eagerly anticipated and one can expect a similar kind of expectation when he takes to the box, starting next week.
