IPL 2017: Kings XI Punjab vs Gujarat Lions, Player Ratings
Gujarat Lions defeated Kings XI Punjab by 6 wickets with two balls to spare in Mohali. Batting first, KXIP scored 189/3 courtesy a superb century from Hashim Amla. Shaun Marsh also played well as he scored a well-compiled half-century. However, it was Dwayne Smith’s blazing knock of 74(39) that took the game away from KXIP completely.
Let us now have a look at how the players fared in this match.
Kings XI Punjab
Hashim Amla – 10/10
Amla brought up his second IPL ton to power KXIP to a huge total of 189/3 in their 20 overs. This was also his second IPL ton of his entire T20 career. It was a beautiful innings of 104(60), star-studded with 8 fours and 5 sixes.
Shaun Marsh – 9/10
It was Shaun Marsh who was the second fiddle in his 125-run partnership with Amla, after the early dismissal of Martin Guptill. He played a magnificent and classy knock of 58(43) which consisted of 6 sweetly timed boundaries. It was his knock that allowed Amla to play freely at the other end.
Martin Guptill- 1/10
Guptill had another flop show with the bat as he was able to add just two runs in five deliveries. It was Pradeep Sangwan who set him up with a superb bouncer. Guptill tried to hook it and was caught by Basil Thampi at deep square leg.
Glenn Maxwell- 7/10
Maxwell once again showed his worth with both bat and ball as he scored a breezy 20*(11) and then claimed the priced wicket of Dwayne Smith. He revived KXIP’s chances, which looked quite bleak when Smith was batting.
Mohit Sharma – 2/10
Mohit Sharma conceded 35 runs in four overs without taking any wickets and didn’t seem to trouble any of the Gujarat Lions batsmen. Although he did bowl some good deliveries from time to time, the loose ones were given full treatment by the Gujarat Lions batsmen.
Varun Aaron – 1/10
Aaron conceded 43 runs in his 4 overs as nothing worked for him. He couldn’t trouble any of the Gujarat batsmen - neither with pace nor with slower ones.
Axar Patel – 3/10
Patel had an off day with the ball as he conceded 29 runs in his 3 overs without taking any wicket. He didn’t get much opportunity to do anything with the bat and remained unbeaten on two runs after facing just one delivery.

Sandeep Sharma – 7/10
Sandeep was wicketless in his first three overs, conceding 25 runs. However, he came to bowl in his last over at the death and claimed the crucial wickets of Suresh Raina and Aaron Finch, conceding just four runs in that over. Thus, he finished up with figures of 4-29-2.
T Natarajan – 5/10
Natarajan did pick up the important wicket of Ishan Kishan but he also leaked runs at a high rate, conceding 32 runs in 2.5 overs. He was entrusted with the last over where he had to defend 8 runs but he failed to do so.
Wriddhimann Saha – NA
It wouldn’t be wise to rate him as he neither got to bat nor got any opportunity to show his wicket-keeping skills.
Gurkeerat Singh Mann – NA
The same goes with him as he neither bowled nor got the opportunity to bat.

Suresh Raina – 7/10
Raina kept Gujarat’s required run-rate under check with an innings of 39(25) balls which constituted of 4 fours and 1 huge six. However, his innings was cut short by a superb over by Sandeep Sharma.

Aaron Finch – 1/10
Finch couldn’t do much with the bat as he fell victim to a superb delivery from Sandeep Sharma after aing just two runs to the total. He departed at an important time and that could have been the turning point of the match.

Jadeja didn’t do much with the ball as he conceded 19 runs in his two overs. And when it came to batting he remained unbeaten on 7(6).
Pradeep Sangwan – 5/10
