The Kings XI Punjab kept their playoff hopes alive with a thrilling win over the home side Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. Batting first, the KXIP rode on Wriddhiman Saha's classy knock of 93*(55) to post a mammoth total of 230/3 in their 20 overs. The Mumbai Indians began their chase well with Lendl Simmons and Parthiv Patel putting up a stand of 99 runs for the first wicket. However, they soon lost track due to a regular fall of wickets. Kieron Pollard (50*), Hardik Pandya (30) and Karn Sharma (19) tried their best to get Mumbai over the line but they ultimately fell short of the target by seven runs.

Let us now have a look at how the players fared in the match.

Kings XI Punjab

Wriddhiman Saha – 10/10

Saha seemed to have suddenly found his lost touch as he blasted his way to a classy knock of 93* off just 55 deliveries. His innings was studded with 11 sweetly timed boundaries and three huge sixes. He anchored the innings right until the end and helped KXIP to a massive total of 230/3.

Glenn Maxwell – 9/10

Maxwell played a destructive innings of 47 today and then took 1-8 with the ball in just two overs. He contributed with both bat and ball and led from the front.

Martin Guptill – 7/10

Guptill got the Kings XI Punjab off to a flying start along with his opening partner Saha. He smashed his way to 36 runs off just 18 deliveries before being dismissed attempting a big shot off leg-spinner Karn Sharma. He also took a blinder to dismiss the well-set Lendl Simmons later on.

Shaun Marsh – 6/10

Marsh walked out to bat at the fall of Maxwell's wicket in the 11th over of the innings when KXIP had already raced their way to a total of 131/2. He scored a steady 25(16) and made sure that KXIP didn’t lose any momentum.

Axar Patel – 6/10

Patel chipped in with a crucial innings of 19*(13) with the bat and claimed 1-28 in his three overs with the ball.

Rahul Tewatia – 6/10

He may have bowled only a couple of overs and given away 17 runs, however, he claimed the all-important wicket of Rohit Sharma.

Mohit Sharma – 5/10

Mohit Sharma claimed two important wickets

Mohit bowled well but got hammered for 57 runs in his four overs. He was unlucky at times as good balls resulted in streaky boundaries. However, he claimed the two important wickets of Parthiv Patel and Karn Sharma.

Sandeep Sharma – 4/10

He has been Punjab’s go-to man with the ball in the entire season so far. Sandeep claimed the crucial wicket of Hardik Pandya at the business end of the innings.

Ishant Sharma – 2/10

He didn't return any wickets today as well and was hammered for 29 runs in his three overs.

Matt Henry – 1/10

Henry leaked 40 runs in his two overs and was not handed the ball thereafter.

Manan Vohra – N/A

Vohra didn't have the opportunity to prove his mettle with the bat today. Hence, it would be unfair to rate him.

Mumbai Indians

Simmons got Mumbai off to a blistering start

Lendl Simmons – 9/10

Simmons set his team on course to chase the mammoth target set by the KXIP. He blasted 59 runs off just 32 deliveries and stitched together an opening stand of 99 runs along with Parthiv Patel. He hit five fours and four sixes en route to his innings of 59.

Kieron Pollard – 9/10

Pollard kept Mumbai in the hunt with a superb innings of 50*(24). He blasted five sixes but could not take his side to victory as he was stifled in the last couple of overs.

Jasprit Bumrah – 8/10

Bowling figures of 4-0-24-1 are absolute gold when the opposition has piled up a massive total of 230. Bumrah bowled with the utmost control and took the crucial wicket of KXIP skipper Glenn Maxwell who was going hammer and tongs at the time.

Parthiv Patel – 7/10

Parthiv proved to be the perfect opening partner for Simmons who was bludgeoning his way to a half-century at the other end. The wicketkeeper-batsman scored a steady 38(23) and was the calming influence in the partnership.

Karn Sharma – 7/10

Karn bowled well today but his figures do not display that. He was taken for a few sixes by the KXIP batsmen at the back end and hence his poor bowling figures of 3-0-32-1. Yet, no one can ignore the fact that he took the all important wicket of Martin Guptill when he had smashed his way to 36(18). Moreover, he played a short little cameo of 19(6) when Mumbai needed it the most.

Hardin Pandya – 6/10

Pandya played a handy knock to resuscitate Mumbai’s chase

Pandya was thrashed for 29 runs in the two overs that he bowled today. But he played a cameo of 30(13) towards the end of the Mumbai innings to add some impetus to the chase.

Mitchell McClenaghan – 3/10

He was once again expensive today as he had been on previous occasions. He was taken for 54 runs in his 4 overs; the only consolation was Shaun Marsh's wicket that he picked up with a well-disguised slower delivery.

Nitish Rana – 2/10

Rana had a terrific start to this edition of IPL, however, his form has faded away as the tournament has progressed. He was dismissed after scoring only a run-a-ball 12.

Rohit Sharma – 1/10

The Mumbai Indians skipper has been the most important cog in the side’s batting order. But he failed to contribute today and was dismissed for just 5 runs off 7 deliveries.

Lasith Malinga – 1/10

Malinga wasn't at his best today. He constantly delivered half volleys and full tosses as he attempted his famous toe-crushing yorkers. The execution just wasn’t right and he was smashed for 45 runs in his four overs.

Harbhajan Singh – 1/10

Harbhajan was taken for 45 runs in his three overs. He seemed to have no clue as to how to bowl to the KXIP batsmen and was poor with the bat in hand as well.
