IPL 2017: Mitchell Starc mistakenly sends personal message to Virat Kohli's parody account
What’s the story?
Twitter has proven to be a brilliant way to get teammates and rivals together. But as Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc found out, you need to be extra careful when you are sending a message across as Virat Kohli’s former RCB teammate sent out a message to a parody account on Twitter instead of the Indian captain’s official account.
Ahead of IPL 2017, Starc sent a personal message, congratulating Kohli and wishing him a speedy recovery that he thought was to Kohli’s official account but was instead to a parody account of the Indian and RCB skipper on Twitter.

In case you didn’t know...
Virat Kohli injured himself during the Ranchi Test and not only missed the decider in Dharamsala with a shoulder injury but also the start of IPL 2017. Starc decided to end his association with RCB ahead of IPL Auction 2017 in order to concentrate on being completely fit for the ICC Champions Trophy and give the tournament a miss.
The heart of the matter
Having had issues with fitness in the past having missed not only IPL 2016 but the entire first of 2016 with injury, Starc admitted that he need the time to get back to full fitness. He said that it was "in my best interests, both physically and mentally, for me to have a break, spend time with my family and take the opportunity to work on getting back to full fitness.”
Kohli himself is also battling an injury and is hoping to be fit for the latter stages of the IPL. However, Starc's efforts to congratulate Kohli and wish him a speedy recovery didn’t go according to plan as he messaged a parody account. The user posted that out and that tweet soon went viral and left the 27-year-old an embarrassed international cricketer.

What’s next?
For Mitchell Starc, who is currently recovering from the injury he suffered during the India-Australia series, the next assignment is a race to be fit for the ICC Champions Trophy in June. For Virat Kohli, it is also a race to be fit but to take part in IPL 2017 for RCB before the Champions Trophy.
Author’s Take
All of us make mistakes and on this occasion, all Mitchell Starc was trying to do is congratulate Kohli on his incredible performances over the home season and wish him a speedy recovery from his shoulder injury. Unfortunately, he was left red-faced as he had sent that personal message to a parody account. One hopes that he did send his message across to Kohli and the pair can continue their friendship even if their association at RCB ended earlier this year before a fiery India-Australia series.
