IPL: 3 bizarre dismissals in the history of IPL
Indian Premier League is undoubtedly the best franchise-based cricket competition across the world. The quality of cricket displayed in the IPL will clearly match the International standards. Even the International Cricket Council (ICC) has unofficially allocated a separate window for IPL in its International calendar.
Breathtaking catches, unbelievable run-outs, fantastic efforts to save a boundary, athletic fielding are the hallmarks of IPL. However, there were few instances where the batsmen bizarrely lose their wickets. Let us look at 3 such unusual dismissals in the history of IPL:
#3 Amit Mishra’s funny run-out
Game: Match 30 of IPL 2014
Teams: Sunrisers Hyderabad vs. Rajasthan Royals
Over: 19.4 (1st innings)
Amit Mishra is the only player in the history of IPL to take three hat-tricks. He is the second most successful bowler in the history of the tournament with only Lasith Malinga ahead of him. Even though he has scored four half-centuries in Test matches, he is a typical tail-ender. This claim can be evident from his dismissal in the game mentioned above. Mishra came in at no.10 for SRH with only 125 runs on the scoreboard.
James Faulkner bowled a slower delivery. Mishra went for a massive slog only to miss the ball. He tried to steal a bye, but the non-striker sent him back. Sanju Samson who was RR’s wicketkeeper attempted to hit the stumps, but he missed it. As the ball rolled towards Faulkner, he picked the ball and tried to hit the stumps this time. Again, the ball missed the stumps and went to Samson. Mishra was in no mood to return to the crease. Samson who gathered the ball again fired it against the stumps. Finally, the ball hit the stumps in the 3rd attempt. It was a school-boy error by Amit Mishra.
SRH ended their innings with a below-par score of 134. However, Mishra along with Bhuvaneswar Kumar bowled tight economic spells conceding only 27 runs for 5 wickets in 8 overs between them. In the end, Rajasthan was bowled out for 102 runs as Shane Watson's hat-trick in the 1st innings went in vain.
