IPL 2018: CSK matches to be moved out of Chennai

In what will come as a massive setback to Chennai Super Kings, the home games will now be shifted out of the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai owing to the Cauvery Water dispute.

This will certainly sour the interest of the CSK loyalists as the team was making a comeback after a hiatus of two years.

It has to be mentioned here that thousands of pro-Tamil activists held a protest on Tuesday and called for a boycott of the IPL cricket match between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders.

The BCCI is apparently concerned with players' security and that this decision had to be taken since the state police were finding it difficult to tackle the protests.

Despite this volatile situation, the match went on as scheduled and during the match, a couple of thugs hurled shoes at Faf du Plessis and Ravindra Jadeja.

Protests were also held at Triplicane, an area in the vicinity of the stadium, but the Tamil Nadu police detained them to prevent any further outrage.

Groups like Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) and also a newly launched forum of Tamil directors had earlier given a clarion call to boycott the IPL as according to them, the games were being held to 'divert attention' from the ongoing Cauvery protests all across the state.

Bharathirajaa, a well-known filmmaker was quoted as saying "at a time when we are grieving (over the Cauvery dispute), should we need IPL… it is insulting,".

Earlier the Tamil Nadu government put the onus on the Indian Premier League governing council for conducting the matches and it seems as if the governing council has taken this decision keeping in mind the intensity of protests on April 10.

However, no alternative venue has yet been announced, and if sources are to be believed, Trivandrum is one of the favorites to benefit from Chennai's misery.
