IPL 2018, CSK vs DD: 3 unnoticed things from the match

It was the battle of David vs Goliath as the Delhi Daredevils took on the Chennai Super Kings at Pune. Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to field first. Chennai got off to a fantastic start as Shane Watson continued his good form.

The openers added 102 runs for the first wicket in just 11 overs. Chennai finished off strongly courtesy a fantastic fifty by MS Dhoni and a vital cameo from Ambati Rayadu. Chasing a mammoth score of 212 runs to win, Delhi got off to a bad start as they lost Prithvi Shaw in the 2nd over of their chase.

Rishabh Pant did try to make a match out of it but Delhi kept losing wickets at regular intervals and at the end lost the contest by 13 runs. Sportskeeda takes a look at 3 things that might have been missed by the fans in today’s game.

#1 Watson’s lucky escape on the first ball

Shane Watson has been in cracking form this season. CSK are dependent on him to get a quick start at the top. Today as well, Watson continued in his rich vein of form as he smashed 78 runs off just 40 balls.

But he can consider himself a bit lucky as he survived a very close call on the first ball of the match. Trent Boult delivered another one of his inswingers and Watson looked to have been caught plumb in front of the wicket but the on-field umpire ruled in favour of the batsman. Daredevils had no hesitation in opting for the review.

The ball-tracker showed that the ball had hit him in line and was hitting the stumps. However, the third umpire ruled that Watson had hit the ball and gave him not out. But the replays had clearly suggested that the ball had hit the pad first. It turned out to be a big moment in the match.
