IPL 2018: David Miller could be an ideal man to bolster Sunrisers Hyderabad
South African middle-order batsman David Miller has had a very tumultuous time in the Indian Premier League. From being one of the clutch players for Kings XI Punjab to being appointed the captain to being sacked, not only from captaincy but also from the playing eleven, Miller has seen it all.
The fact that Punjab retained only Axar Patel before the auctions, means that Miller will be back in the auctions and this presents other teams with an opportunity to snap him up.
Considering various permutations and combinations and looking at the retentions made, Sunrisers Hyderabad look the most likely team which could rope in Miller for the upcoming season.
The fact that Miller is a middle order batsman who can not only control the innings but towards the end unleash his power works perfectly for Hyderabad who would ideally want an experienced man during the middle over.
In the previous season, this is one area where SRH faltered, as despite the bright starts provided by David Warner they stumbled around in the middle overs and did not manage to reach match-winning scores.
What also works for Miller is that he is in great form as he scored the joint fastest century in T20s in only 35 balls against Bangladesh and by his own admission is in pretty good space.
Also, the coach of SRH, Tom Moody has worked with Miller previously and knows his game inside out which will allow the team management to define roles with precision.
The fact that the South African has spent a long time in the IPL will give him an opportunity to assist David Warner on the field, much like what Kane Williamson did in the previous season and this would only help the team.
It goes without saying that the presence of two powerful hitters in the top four or five renders a unique balance to any team and along with Warner, Miller can combine to be an unstoppable force not only in 2018 but for several seasons down the line.
