IPL 2018, DD vs CSK: 4 Unnoticed things from the game between Delhi Daredevils and Chennai Superkings

<p>
Delhi's brilliant bowling handed them the victory over Chennai

Delhi Daredevils clashed against Chennai Super Kings at the Feroz Shah Kotla tonight. Put into bat first, Daredevils ended up scoring 162/5 in their allocated 20 overs.

This was largely due to some lusty lower order hitting by Vijay Shankar (36*off 28 balls) and Harshal Patel (36*off 18 balls). Both the batsman added 65 runs in just 32 balls for the 6th wicket to propel Delhi’s score to 162/5.

In reply, Chennai got off to a good start largely due to Ambati Rayudu’s 50 off 29 balls. But CSK lost their way losing wickets at regular intervals due to some excellent bowling by Delhi bowlers and in the end, CSK lost by 34 runs.

In a game that ebbed and flowed let us look at four unnoticed things from today’s encounter.

#4 DD opted to play with three overseas players

This was the first time Delhi went with only three foreign players in the IPL

In IPL, teams have a luxury of using four overseas players and most often than not team use that option and field-in with four overseas players. But today was a different day because Delhi opted for only three overseas players (Trent Boult, Glenn Maxwell and Sandeep Lamichhane).

This is largely due to most of their overseas players being out of form or injured.

Their star opener Jason Roy has been in terrible form so was Colin Munro, who couldn’t show his batting prowess this season.

Junior Dala or Liam Plunkett might have been given a chance but the Delhi management decided to give the Indian youngsters a chance, hence they roped in Avesh Khan for this season.

This was the first time that only three overseas players starred in an IPL game for Delhi Daredevils.
