IPL 2018: Dhoni's tactics to use three spinners is a good one, says Sunil Gavaskar
What’s the story?
Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar has said that the homecoming of Chennai Super Kings will be one great occasion in the ongoing Indian Premier League.
He has also said that the Kolkata Knight Riders will be feeling the pressure since the MA Chidambaram Stadium will be packed to the rafters and the yellow brigade will be cheering for the home side with a lot of passion.
Also, he has said that the form of Suresh Raina will be critical for CSK as the southpaw has the ability to take the match away from the opposition in a jiffy.
The details
Gavaskar also said that the ploy to play with three spinners is a good move from captain MS Dhoni as this does not give the batsmen extra pace to work with since they are always looking to clear the boundaries.
Writing in his column for the Times of India, the former opener also believes that despite not having any big names in the ranks, Kolkata Knight Riders have good young players and their performances are more than making up for the lack of stars.
In case you didn’t know…
Both KKR and CSK have won their first match and will enter this match brimming with confidence and hence this lends an extra edge to the contest.
While KKR would want Chris Lynn to fire, CSK would ideally want the batsmen to stand up and be counted on the big day.
What’s next?
While KKR is looking a settled unit, CSK might want to bring in Murali Vijay who is now fit to open the innings.
Also, since Kedar Jadhav is out with injury, Ambati Rayudu will slip down to bat in the middle order.
Author’s take
The pitch in Chennai might well determine the composition of the respective teams and if the strip is on the lower side it even things for both the teams as both sides have quality spinners to take advantage of the conditions.
