Chennai Super Kings could make a couple of changes to accommodate the fit-again Imran Tahir, but other than that there shouldn’t be any surprises in the playing XI of both the sides today.
With Shane Watson in and Royal Challengers Bangalore playing next only after a span of four matches, all I need from this fixture is a player for the second captaincy option, and it is again a shootout between Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.
When I can’t get both in, I will keep picking the one who bats higher, which, in this case, is Kohli. The deck at the Chinnaswamy, while not as bad as last year, isn’t the batting paradise it once used to be, with the dryness assisting spinners; therefore, packing your side with too many batting options is not likely to end well.
It is one of the reasons why I am leaving Suresh Raina out too. The left-hander's poor numbers against Yuzvendra Chahal and vulnerability against the short ball, with the opposition having three pacers in its arsenal, do not help his case either.
If Du Plessis is dropped, it is an indicator of Ambati Rayudu moving back to the opening slot, in which case, given the form he is in, his fantasy potential goes up by a couple of notches. However, if he stays at No.4, you can’t expect him to give consistent returns.
Among the uncapped players, Manan Vohra didn’t look all that good in the first game, so till I get clarity on what kind of form he is in, I don't plan on getting him in, especially when the alternative is as good as Deepak Chahar.
