In an unfortunate turn of events, Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Kamlesh Nagarkoti has been ruled out of the 2018 Indian Premier League. A foot injury has forced the under-19 World Cup star out of the tournament and Karnataka pacer Prasidh Krishna has been called in as his replacement.

The 18-year-old Nagarkoti was bought by the Kolkata-based franchise in the auction for a hefty sum of Rs 3.20 crores and was set to play an important role in the side's run in the tournament. It was widely believed that the pacer will replace Vinay Kumar, who has failed to impress in the two matches he has featured in, for KKR's next match.

Nagarkoti's replacement, Krishna is a 22-year-old fast bowler from Karnataka, who has featured in one first-class match, 19 List-A encounters and three T20s and has picked up six, 33 and four wickets in them respectively.

As Nagarokti picked up the injury before the commencement of the tournament, the Karnataka medium pacer was called up by the Kolkata-based outfit as a backup option earlier and he featured for them in a couple of practise matches as well.

As far as the franchise is considered, they are already running low on fast bowling resources. Mitchell Starc was ruled out before the start of this year's edition and now Nagarkoti has been ruled out as well. On top of that, their senior-most Indian fast bowler, Vinay Kumar, has failed to stamp his authority and has gone for a considerable number of runs.

In the absence of two of their most potent pacers in Starc and Nagarkoti, Mitchell Johnson, Tom Curran and Shivam Mavi are expected to step up and take their team through.
