IPL 2018, KKR v DD: Glenn Maxwell's dismissal is SK Turning Point of the match
Gautam Gambhir's return to the Eden Gardens as a rival skipper against the home team ended on an unsuccessful note on Monday (April 16). The Kolkata Knight Riders clinched a 71-run victory over Delhi Daredevils on the day.
After winning the toss and deciding to bowl first, DD leaked as many as 200 runs in the first innings. They could make just 129-10 in reply and ended up capitulating to the pressure of the massive target.
Gambhir and Jason Roy came in to open for the visitors but were sent back to the pavilion for single-digit scores. Shreyas Iyer too, couldn't grab his opportunity at Number 3 and was dismissed after making just 4 off 3 deliveries.
That's when Rishabh Pant and Glenn Maxwell took the guard in the middle and tried to steady the DD ship. They both made useful contributions in the middle order, but could not stay put until the end of the innings.
Maxwell, in particular, was looking to take the charge to the opposition with his explosive batting. Kuldeep Yadav bowled the 11th over of the innings, and it proved to be eventful and effective for the hosts.
Maxwell attempted to smash the ball over long-on off the third delivery of the over, but could only manage a mis-hit that should've gone down the throat of Shivam Mavi in the deep. However, the youngster dropped the catch and the ball ended up sailing over the boundary. To rub salt on Yadav's wounds, Maxwell hoiked the next ball for a massive six over the cow corner.
This did not dampen the spirits of the chinaman bowler, though. In a display of courage, he tossed up his next delivery yet again, and the Australian ended up falling into his trap. He tried to hit the ball squarer this time, but could not get the required elevation and was caught by Robin Uthappa on the mid-wicket boundary.
That's when the visitors tumbled into serious trouble in their innings and ultimately, they could never get out of it and capitulated to a huge defeat in their fourth game of the tournament.
