IPL 2018, MI vs KXIP: Mumbai Indians (MI) probable playing XI against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP)
In one of the most crucial clashes of this seasons' Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians welcome Kings XI Punjab at the Wankhede. While KXIP have a clear path ahead - win both the remaining matches and qualify for playoffs, Mumbai are not sure of a berth even if they go on to win both of theirs.
Moreover, a defeat tonight would serve as a knockout punch for both the sides. Thus, in the build-up to such a high-voltage clash, both the think-tanks would be working extra time to ensure they get the combination right tonight.
Here's how Mumbai might line up against Kings XI Punjab.
Evin Lewis: The West Indian opener hasn't had a great debut season in the cash-rich T20 league. However, he has still managed to score in excess of 300 runs and has provided Mumbai with some solid starts.
Suryakumar Yadav: The ploy to send the Mumbaikar to open the innings has worked wonders for the Rohit Sharma-led side and the youngster has scored 473 runs in 12 matches, leading MI's run-scoring chart.
Rohit Sharma: The skipper of the side has been dismal this season. 267 runs in 12 innings do not do justice to the calibre of Indian opener. Rohit would want to step up in a crunch match and take Mumbai through.
JP Duminy: The South African all-rounder was drafted in the side after repeated failures of Kieron Pollard. Duminy, however, hasn't had enough chances to prove himself and is not sure of his batting position yet.
Ishan Kishan: The youngster has been used as a floater in the batting line up and as a result, hasn't been able to find the rhythm needed to get going. Kishan has 250 runs in 12 matches.
Hardik Pandya: The Indian all-rounder has had a reversal in fortunes and after sub-par outings in the former part of the tournament, the younger of Pandya brothers has silenced all his doubters. He has 224 runs and 18 wickets to show for in 12 matches - easily one of the best performers of this season.
Krunal Pandya: One of the three hard-hitting finishers in the team, Krunal has scored 192 runs in 12 matches. His best though has come with the ball, 11 wickets at an economy of 6.93. Rohit would want him to come good with the ball again, especially against the likes of Gayle and Rahul.
Ben Cutting: The Australian all-rounder has played just four innings, in which he has 55 runs to show for. Cutting has bagged a couple of wickets as well and would continue playing the finisher's role for MI.
Mitchell McClenaghan: After going unsold in the auction, McClenaghan was roped in by MI after they lost Pat Cummins to an injury. The Kiwi has repaid the faith shown in him by the team management and has bagged 12 wickets in 10 matches.
Mayank Markande: The youngster started the tournament in style and was once the Purple Cap holder. However, the batsmen seemed to have picked him up recently. Markande has 14 wickets in 12 matches, still commendable for a 20-year-old playing his first IPL.
Jasprit Bumrah: Bumrah was expected to be one of the top wicket-takers of the tournament. The Indian pacer, however, has 13 wickets in 12 matches to show for. His economy of 7.13 though shows why he's considered one of the best T20 bowlers going around.
