IPL 2018: Shane Watson praises MS Dhoni's captaincy
What’s the story?
Australian all-rounder Shane Watson is enjoying an extended purple patch in the ongoing Indian Premier League. He has been one of the mainstays for the Chennai Super Kings this season and his consistent starts at the top of the order have served CSK well.
Ahead of the clash with the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first qualifier, Watson has showered praise on his captain MS Dhoni for the way he handles pressure and reads the game.
"Just his feel and intuition for the game, I've experienced that with a few incredible players I've played with, MS is certainly right up there," Watson was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.
The details
Watson also said that he was very fortunate to have got this opportunity to play for the Chennai Super Kings.
Speaking about Dhoni, the Australian further added that he always loves to speak to the skipper as this allows him to read his mind and gauge how he is thinking and approaching different scenarios.
In case you didn’t know…
Shane Watson has scored 438 runs, including one century and two half-centuries, and taken six wickets in the tournament so far.
His explosive starts at the top of the order have been one of the main reasons why CSK have managed to book their spot in the playoffs this season.
What’s next?
The MS Dhoni-led side will take on Kane Williamson's SRH in the qualifier at the Wankhede Stadium on May 22.
The winner goes straight to the finale while the loser will have another chance to stake their claim as they will take on the winner of the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals.
Author’s take
This season has been remarkable for the Chennai Super Kings as, after making a comeback into the fold after a ban of two years, they have galloped along to the playoffs.
What also makes this team so outstanding is the fact that almost all the players have put up their hands and performed in critical situations. They were led brilliantly by MS Dhoni, who was equally stellar with the bat.
