Three days and 3 swashbuckling performances by West Indian players.
West Indian players have set the IPL on fire. In the last three days of the tournament, they have played match-winning knocks from difficult situations. The ability to muscle the bowlers out of the park and shatter the bowler's confidence is what makes them dangerous. Going ahead expect more such performances from the Caribbean players and don't be surprised if they go on to win the Orange Caps' or even the most valuable player of the tournament.
Here are the three performances that had a massive impact on the teams' performance this week:
#1) Chris Gayle:(63 runs off 33 balls)
There is no introduction necessary for the Universe Boss. He has bossed the T20 circuit and has been one of the most successful batsmen in this format. He has an astonishing 11,131 runs in this format at an average of 40.77 and has consistently performed in T20 leagues all around the world. In the recently played finals of Bangladesh Premier League, he hit a record 18 sixes and blasted 146 off 69 balls.
During this year's auction after being snubbed by RCB, he was picked up by Kings XI Punjab at his base price of 2 crores. Due to his age, it was widely believed that he would get limited opportunities. After being out for the initial 2 matches, he justified his role in the team by blasting a 63 off just 33 balls which included four massive sixes and seven boundaries.
His innings brought back the memories of his performances for RCB. Winning the man of the match award in his first game will surely give him more opportunities in the IPL. Going forward, it will be interesting to see if he can be consistent in the IPL.
