IPL 2018: Three players who let the Mumbai Indians down this season
The defending champions suffered a group stage exit in the eleventh edition of the IPL after their surprising 11 run defeat against the Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shaw Kotla on Sunday. They finished with just six wins in their fourteen league matches in IPL 2018, with just a victory away from securing a playoff berth. Many of their players were top notch throughout the season. Youngsters like Ishan Kishan and Mayank Markande were top notch for them this season.
Hardik Pandya was exceptional in his all-round abilities scoring 260 runs and picking up 18 wickets. Local boy Suryakumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya too played their part very well. But some of the players failed to step up for Mumbai, which led them to a surprise exit this season. let us now look at the players who let them down this season.
#3 Kieron Pollard (Mumbai Indians)
Since the third edition of the IPL, Pollard has been an integral part of the Mumbai Indians squad scoring more than 2000 runs while picking up 50-plus wickets.
He has won three titles so far with the Mumbai Indians- 2013, 2015 and 2017.
A match winner and an exceptional all-rounder, Pollard was retained by the Mumbai Indians using the Right-to-match card at the 2018 auctions for INR 5.4 crore.
In the nine matches he has played this season, Pollard has scored just 133 runs. Owing to his poor form he was left out of the squad for five games- a surprising move given his all-round prowess.
A big-hitter and a useful bowler, Pollard has failed to replicate the magic of last season where he scored 385 runs in 17 matches for Mumbai guiding them to a record third title. Pollard has certainly let Mumbai down this season.
