IPL 2018: Two changes CSK should make following Deepak Chahar's injury

Ch
Chahar is one of only two CSK bowlers with an economy of less than 8 runs per over

Chennai Super Kings suffered their second defeat in IPL 2018, falling against Mumbai Indians at Pune. After a good start to their innings, CSK's batsmen struggled to get runs in the middle overs. They eventually reached a par score of 169 which proved to be insufficient as Mumbai Indians won the match by 8 wickets.

Apart from the defeat, CSK suffered another blow. Deepak Chahar, who has bowled pretty decently so far in the tournament, was ruled out for two weeks with a hamstring injury that he sustained during the match against Mumbai Indians. CSK will need to find a replacement for Chahar and here we will look at forced changes that CSK might have to make in the playing XI for their next match against Delhi Daredevils.

#2 David Willey in place of Deepak Chahar

David Willey has the ability to take wickets at the top of the order

One of CSK's major problems has been the bowlers' inability to pick wickets in the powerplays. Deepak Chahar did take three wickets in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, but on most occasions, too many runs have been given away in the first six overs. David Willey, the English all-rounder, can provide a wicket-taking option to CSK.

Willey, who opens the bowling for England in limited overs cricket, has the knack of picking wickets. With Shardul Thakur leaking runs in the death overs, Willey can play that role too. He is also a more than useful batsman and with Dhoni wanting a left-hander in the team, Willey can be the solution to all of CSK's problems.

#1 Karn Sharma in place of Imran Tahir

If David Willey or Mark Wood replaces injured Deepak Chahar, then CSK will have to drop one of the other three overseas players. CSK do not have many options when it comes to batting replacements, so it is highly probable that Imran Tahir will be the one to miss out.

Tahir has taken crucial wickets for the team but he has been highly inconsistent. He hasn't been able to stop the flow of runs and has given away runs at a high economy of 9.09. The 39-year-old can be replaced by fellow leg-spinner, Karn Sharma. Karn Sharma has played only two matches this season, and his inclusion in the playing XI will help CSK to maintain the team's balance.
