IPL 2018: With home games coming up, RCB have a great chance of qualifying, says Washington Sundar

What’s the story?

After grabbing the attention of the cricketing world last season with his accurate off-spin, young Washington Sundar was one of the hottest properties this auction.

He was eventually snapped up by the Royal Challengers Bangalore following which he has been one of the key cogs for the Virat Kohli-led outfit.

The young man was all praise for Kohli and spoke about his modus operandi with the ball.

“I have always wanted to keep things simple and think of those aspects, that are under my control. I am really lucky to be under the leadership of Kohli in RCB. He has been really supportive of me especially when I have the ball in my hand. I can’t ask for a better captain and I want to do well for the team in the matches coming up,” Sundar was quoted by indianexpress.com.

The details

RCB have not started their season in the right earnest as they have won only a couple of matches in the six matches played so far.

However, Sundar believes that it takes a little bit of time for the team to gel together and with a number of home games slated to be held, RCB have a great chance of making it to the playoffs.

Sundar is also aware that he now needs to elevate his own game as the batsmen have figured him out a touch and hence he now needs to go back to the nets and work on the basics and do his homework a lot better.

In case you didn’t know…

Washington Sundar has been a critical figure for RCB this season, both with the bat and ball, and Kohli has thrown the ball to the youngster in the powerplays quite often.

Also, he is no rabbit with the bat and has shown enough promise and can be used by RCB as a floater in the batting order.

What’s next?

RCB take on Kolkata Knight Riders in their seventh match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium and the team would want to get back to winning ways as soon as possible since they are now running out of time.

Author’s take

Royal Challengers Bangalore need to look at their bowling attack as this particular facet has been their Achilles heel for over two seasons now.
