IPL 2019: 3 expensive players who have turned out to be disappointments this season
It's been more than a month since IPL 2019 started, and there are fewer than 10 games left in the league stage. This season has so far offered a lot of things to its fans - from the big hitting of Andre Russell, the heroics of Hardik Pandya and the composure of MS Dhoni, to a brilliant Super Over by Kagiso Rabada and the impeccable consistency of David Warner.
Some of the players have emerged out of nowhere and performed brilliantly in this tournament, which justifies the tagline 'where talent meets opportunity'. The list of such players includes the likes of Shreyas Gopal, Riyan Parag, Rahul Chahar, Jofra Archer and Shubman Gill.
But here, we take a look at the players that were hot buys during this year's auctions but failed to live up to the expectations:
#3 Jaydev Unadkat (Rajasthan Royals)
Jaydev Unadkat was one of the most expensive buys at this year's auctions as he grabbed a whopping ₹8.4 crore from his last year's franchise, Rajasthan Royals. So far, he has featured in 11 games for them in which he has just 10 scalps to his name and that too with an economy of over 10 runs per over.
Last year something similar happened as Unadkat was sold for ₹11.5 crores to RR and he managed to take only 11 wickets in 15 games. But after a successful season for Saurashtra in this year's Ranji Trophy, Rajasthan once again showed faith in him - which has not been fruitful so far.
Unandkat is famous for the variations that he uses while bowling which helped him in the 2017 season while he was playing for Rising Pune Supergiant. He picked up 24 wickets in just 12 games that season with a decent economy of just over 7.
But he has done nothing great since then, with the batsmen having learned how to read him.
