IPL 2019: RCB's domestic players to undergo Yo-Yo test in the ongoing conditioning camp
What's the story?
Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore have started their preparations for the upcoming season with a five-day conditioning camp today in Bangalore. The youngsters who have joined the camp will undergo the Yo-Yo test to assess their fitness ahead of the 2019 edition.
The background
Recently, Yo-Yo test has become a mandatory norm for every Indian player to clear in order to prove their fitness to be in contention for selection to the national squad. Following the success of the assessing technique, Bangalore-based IPL franchise RCB has decided to use it to get the hang of the fitness of their squad members.
The details
Under the mentorship of Head Coach Gary Kirsten and former Indian bowler Ashish Nehra, RCB have kickstarted their preparations for the upcoming season which is having an early start. The five-day camp saw eight of their domestic players take part in a warm-up game against Afghanistan on the first day.
Mumbai all-rounder Shivam Dube was one of the star attractions as 16-year-old Bengal leggie Prayas Ray Burman also flew down to Bangalore. Himmat Singh, Kulwant Khejroliya and Milind Kumar were the other participants apart from India players Washington Sundar and Pawan Negi. Local lad Devdutt Padikkal was also a part of the camp.
All these players will now undergo the Yo-Yo test which would give them a fair idea about their fitness levels ahead of IPL 2019.
What's next?
RCB have failed to put on a good performance for the last two seasons despite having well-balanced squads at their disposal. Last year saw them bowing out of the tournament after losing a virtual quarterfinal against Rajasthan Royals.
RCB made a few impressive purchases in the auction held last December and look set to win their maiden IPL title.
