IPL 2019, Qualifier 2: 3 Reasons that blocked Delhi's Way to the Finals.
Captain Cool, MSD and Co. have already stormed their way through the finals for an 8th time in the history of IPL and there's no wonder why people applaud his captaincy every now and then. CSK always had the upper hand over Iyer's Delhi Capitals throughout this season of IPL and therefore their confidence level was enormously high. Super Kings won the toss and decided to bowl may be because chasing has always been Dhoni's favourite part.
Head to Head in IPL 2019
Delhi Capitals lost on both occasions to CSK during the league stage matches in IPL 2019 where the 2nd match came as a major blow because Super Kings crushed Iyer's army by a massive 80 run margin.
Here are 3 possible reasons that cost Delhi the game
1. Failed Batting Order- The opening pair of Capitals, Dhawan and Shaw could not give their team a rollicking start and also failed to establish a strong partnership. Shaw walked to the dressing room after scoring in single figures (5) whereas Dhawan could only produce 18 runs from his bat. Munro contributed the decent share of runs but had to depart by the end of 8th over. Captain Shreyas Iyer failed to play his part and could only manage 13 of 18 balls. Axar Patel, Rutheford and Paul could stand for a short while on the field and therefore all the pressure came on Pant's shoulder.
2. Rishabh Pant's Dismissal at a Crucial Time- A total of 147 runs on the board wasn't good enough to defend but it could have been fairly high if Pant stayed on the field for another 8 balls. Pant failed to find a supporting end as none of the batsmen could stand for long on the field and this may be the reason so as to why he was avoiding bigger hits. If he could have got a set batsman in support, he would have definitely taken a risk of hitting the big shots. His dismissal in the 19th over shook Capitals completely and if he would have stayed for the 8 remaining balls, the score could have reached 160 which could have been competitive.
3. Kemo Paul instead of Chris Morris- It was expected of Delhi Capitals that they might make a change in their squad in order to stand strong in this significant match. They should have preferred the more experienced Chris Morris against Kemo Paul especially when the former was retained by the team in this year's auction. Paul proved to be an expensive bowler for the Capitals as he gave 49 runs in just 3 overs with an economy of 16.33. His 13th over, where Watson smashed 25 runs, totally shifted the momentum towards the Chennai Super Kings.
