IPL 2019, RCB vs DC: Why Bangalore lost their game against Delhi
In the 20th game of IPL 2019, we had Delhi Capitals visiting Royal Challengers Bangalore at their home ground, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
RCB, who have made a terrible start to their season, needed to win this one badly as they had lost all of their 5 previous fixtures and were placed at the bottom of IPL Points Table.
The proceedings began with the away captain Shreyas Iyer winning the toss and opting to bowl first. The opening pair of Parthiv Patel and Virat Kohli came to the crease. Virat was the lone standing man on the pitch as the wickets kept falling from the other end. They finished their inning at 149-8 at the end of 20 overs.
Then came the Delhi batsmen, who despite losing Shikhar Dhawan early, played very well till the 14th over. Though they lost a couple of wickets on the way, they were sailing smoothly towards their target. The things got a bit rough for DC in the 18th over, where they lost quick wickets. But they stabilized themselves to chase down the target of 150 runs with 4 wickets to spare.
Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli missed the trick in terms of keeping the strike. After 13 overs, the RCB captain faced less than 30 balls. At one stage, he had scored 17 consecutive singles, but the batsmen at the other end could not rotate the strike or go big. That's when the Delhi side strangled Bangalore, which led to RCB's low score.
Kohli might have kept the strike and could have tried to get more boundaries. It would have helped the team to switch gears. It was still a close game, and 20-30 more runs would have placed RCB in a better position at the end of their innings.
