IPL 2019: Sanju Samson becomes fourth Indian cricketer to 2 or more centuries in IPL
Sanju Samson recently became the fourth Indian cricketer to score 2 or more centuries in IPL. He scored his 2nd century of his professional career against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Friday. He was attacking from the word go while Ajinkya Rahane was watchful at the other end.
The Malayali player was involved in a 119 run partnership with Rahane before playing innovative strokes, which helped Rajasthan Royals post a strong total of 198 for 2. Samson and Ben Stokes added 64 runs in quick time to help Rajasthan Royals post 198 for 2 in 20 overs. His knock went in vain as SRH won the match by 5 wickets.
Moreover, he had scored his maiden century back in 2017 for Delhi Daredevils against Rising Pune Supergiant. In the 2018 edition, Sanju Samson was on fire with 441 from 15 matches for Rajasthan Royals. He came into the limelight in IPL during the 2013 edition and played for RR till 2015.
Virat Kohli has the most centuries scored by an Indian player in IPL. In 2016, the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain hit 4 centuries. During that season, Kohli scored 973 runs from 16 matches to help RCB reach the finals of the tournament.
In 2010, Murali Vijay scored 127 off 56 against Rajasthan Royals. He then scored 113 off 58 balls for Chennai Super Kings against Delhi Daredevils on 25th May 2012.
Additionally, Virender Sehwag had also scored two IPL centuries. He scored 119 off 56 for Delhi Daredevils against Deccan Chargers in 2011. His 2nd century came for Kings XI Punjab against Chennai Super Kings on 30th May 2014.
Finally, Chris Gayle is currently with 6 centuries in IPL, followed by Virat Kohli. Brendon McCullum and Adam Gilchrist are other foreign players with 2 centuries each.
