Uncertainty over Shakib's participation in IPL 2019

<p>

What's the story?

Sunrisers Hyderabad might miss one of its star players in the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan on Tuesday said that Shakib Al Hasan will play the mega-league only if he is fully fit.

The all-rounder has been hit by several injuries recently, making him stay out of the national duties.

In case you didn't know...

A couple of months ago, Shakib suffered an injury to his finger in the middle of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). As a result, he recently missed out Bangladesh's first Test against New Zealand as well while his inclusion is doubtful for the remaining two matches as well.

Meanwhile, the left-hander is also a crucial part of Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise in IPL.

The heart of the matter

However, his participation remains uncertain as BCB president clarified that Shakib can't be fit for IPL if he is not fit for Bangladesh.

“If he is not fully OK then how will he play the IPL? It can’t be that he is only unfit for our national team but fit for the IPL. If he is fully OK and the doctors concur only then he will be able to play in the IPL,” Hasan was quoted as saying.

Nazmal also suggested that they want him to be fit ahead of the all-important World Cup,

“We want him to play in both IPL and for the national team so the whole thing depends on his health. If he has a problem then we want him to recover fully before returning to cricket. We don’t want to take any risks with him." He added.

What's next?

IPL is set to undergo from March 23rd with defending champions, Chennai Super Kings taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opener.
