IPL 2020: 3 overseas players Mumbai Indians could target at the auction
Mumbai Indians are the most successful team in the history of IPL, having bagged the trophy four times in 12 seasons. The wins have all come under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, in the years 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019.
The team has a good balance of players who have tasted success at the international level and youngsters who can deliver in crunch situations. On the surface it would seem that they have almost all of their bases covered.
However, there are a few issues which the management still needs to address. The form of Evin Lewis in IPL 2019 was a cause for concern; he played just three games in the season and scored 48 runs at an average of 16 and strike rate of 92.30. Moreover, Yuvraj Singh has retired from the IPL and will not be available to play next season.
The bowling department too has a couple of shortcomings. Jason Behrendorff has suffered a stress fracture in his back and is likely to miss the upcoming season. Akila Dananjaya has played just one game in two seasons for Mumbai Indians, and is likely to miss out in 2020.
On that note, here is a look at three overseas players Mumbai Indians could target at the upcoming auctions:
#1 Chris Jordan
The 31-year-old fast bowler can be a perfect replacement for Jason Behrendorff. Jordan has played the IPL in the past but went unsold in the 2019 auction.
He can form part of Mumbai's fast bowling trio, joining Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah. He loves bowling in the death overs and is a handy fielder too.
Jordan has tasted a bit success in the past; in his 11 IPL matches has picked up 12 wickets at an average of 24.83. He is a useful batsman lower down the order too and can score quick runs when needed.
Jordan is a three-dimensional player with experience of playing all three formats at the international level, as well as T20 cricket in leagues all around the world. He will certainly be an asset for the star-studded Mumbai Indians outfit.
