IPL 2020, SRH vs KXIP: Player Ratings
In Match 22 of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020), the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) took on the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).
The SRH openers finally clicked together, with Jonny Bairstow surviving an early drop to pile on 97 runs before KXIP reviewed a leg-before shout to send him back. Though KXIP did well to pull things back after a rampaging 160-run opening partnership, 201/6 was always above par on this ground.
In reply, the KXIP batsmen collapsed under pressure save for a sublime Nicholas Pooran, who alone scored more than a third of the target.
Here are the player ratings from the SRH vs KXIP IPL 2020 game.
IPL 2020, SRH vs KXIP: KXIP Player Ratings
KL Rahul: 4/10
The KXIP captain dropped a tough chance given by Jonny Bairstow and had it been taken, it may have put SRH in an early spot of bother. With bat in hand, Rahul was slow and contained. He fell for 11 off 16, top-edging a sweep for a simple catch and leaving his team gasping for breath in a tough chase.
Mayank Agarwal: 5.5/10
Expected to get the team off to a flyer, Agarwal scored a boundary but was unfortunately run out after a terrible bit of miscommunication with his captain. His 9 off 6 gave a glimpse of what could have been without the run-out.
Prabhsimran Singh: 6.5/10
Asked to keep wickets despite the presence of both Nicholas Pooran and KL Rahul in the team, Prabhsimran did a good job save for an unnecessary extra run due to a lapse in concentration. With bat in hand, he looked more destructive than his captain, and was unlucky that another well-timed shot went straight to Priyam Garg, who was SRH's star fielder on the night.
Nicholas Pooran: 8.5/10
After dropping Abdul Samad near the boundary, Pooran made slight amends with a good catch to dismiss Priyam Garg. With the bat though, he made full amends against Samad, carting him for 28 in an over and scoring 77. But refusing singles and falling to Rashid Khan off an ill-advised slash were questionable decisions made by the only KXIP player who starred with the bat.
Glenn Maxwell: 3/10
Holding down a precious overseas player slot that may now go to Chris Gayle, Glenn Maxwell was bullied while he bowled for 26 runs off two overs, and did not look anything like chasing down a massive total as he made just 7 off 12. He was dismissed when he took on Priyam Garg's arm and was found short of his ground.
Mandeep Singh: 4.5/10
With KXIP tottering after having lost four wickets, Mandeep had to show initiative, which he was unable to do to assist Pooran in the middle. Matched against the best bowler of the night, Mandeep was foxed by a googly and departed for a run-a-ball six.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman: 3.5/10
After replacing Chris Jordan in the XI, Mujeeb was neither economical nor wicket-taking for KXIP, and went for 39 off his 4 overs. With a T20 career average of 9.33, he was never going to be the ideal No. 7 for KXIP, and he was dismissed caught behind for 1 off 3 after a strange, failed review.
Ravi Bishnoi: 7/10
Young Bishnoi was initially carted around by the opening pair, but was the vehicle for KXIP to re-enter the game. He took the three big wickets of Warner, Bairstow and Samad to trigger a mini-collapse, and made a solid case to be bowled in the final over. With bat in hand, he struck a convincing boundary and hung around till the end.
Mohammad Shami: 5/10
Shami would have had a wicket and potentially better bowling figures had Rahul held on to the catch of Bairstow. He bowled unremarkably in his first three overs, but was hit for 14 runs in his last over with Kane Williamson striking two boundaries. With bat in hand, his stay lasted for one ball as he was dismissed LBW off a Rashid googly.
Sheldon Cottrell: 4.5/10
Cottrell was dispatched for as many as 28 runs in his first two overs, and was unable to contain the scoring by the opening pair. However, in his third, he managed to keep things tight to finish with 0 for 33 off 3. With bat in hand, Cottrell padded up for a mere 0 off 2, and was bowled by yorker specialist T Natarajan.
Arshdeep Singh: 7.5/10
The other bowler - apart from Bishnoi - who pulled things back, Arshdeep impressed after coming into the team. The most economical KXIP bowler, the left-armer took the catch to dismiss Samad, and also got rid of Manish Pandey and Priyam Garg cheaply. A duck with the bat put a minor blip on a good day for Arshdeep.
