IPL 2023: 3 records that can be broken in today's KKR vs PBKS fixture

Match 53 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 will see the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) take on the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Monday, May 8.

It has not been a great tournament for KKR, as they have played ten matches, recording four victories and six defeats. With eight points and a negative net run rate of 0.103, the two-time champions are eighth in the table.

On the other hand, PBKS have had a mixed tournament so far as they have played ten games with five wins and as many losses. With ten points and an NRR of -0.472, they are positioned above KKR in the seventh spot in the table.

Every IPL game offers both participating teams a chance to reach certain milestones. Hence, some records are on the verge of being shattered during the upcoming game as well.

On that note, let's take a look at the top three landmarks that could be reached in today's KKR vs PBKS fixture.

#3 Sunil Narine will play his 450th T20 game

Probably the greatest T20 spinner of all time, Sunil Narine will reach a significant landmark when he steps onto the field against PBKS on Monday.

The clash against the Men in Red will mark Narine's 450th T20 appearance. So far, there have been only four cricketers to feature in over 450 T20 matches, namely Kieron Pollard (625), Shoaib Malik (510), Dwayne Bravo (558) and Chris Gayle (463).

In 449 T20 games, Narine has picked up 485 wickets and has also scored 3,426 runs.

#2 Andre Russell could complete 400 T20 wickets

Another West Indian great who will be on the verge of completing a milestone on Monday will be none other than Narine's teammate Andre Russell.

The swashbuckling all-rounder from Jamaica is known for his hard-hitting skills but even has a knack for picking up wickets at crucial junctures. Across 399 T20 innings so far, Russell has taken 397 wickets at an average of 25.4.

Another three wickets will take him to 400 T20 scalps, thus making him only the seventh-ever player to achieve so. Only two other pacers in Dwayne Bravo (615) and Wahab Riaz (413) have scalped more than 400 T20 wickets.

#1 Shikhar Dhawan could score his 50th half-century in IPL

Shikhar Dhawan has failed to convert his starts in the last two fixtures and will be determined to lead his side from the front against the Kolkata outfit tonight. If the PBKS skipper manages to have a great outing and notches up a half-century against KKR, he will take his half-century tally in IPL to 50.

With his knock of 55 against the Delhi Capitals (DC), Virat Kohli became the first-ever Indian to hit 50 half-centuries in the IPL. Dhawan will have a golden chance to follow Kohli and become the second Indian to do so.

Across 212 IPL innings so far, Dhawan has mustered 6,536 runs at an average of 35.7. This includes 49 half-centuries and two hundreds as well.
