IPL 2023: 3 records that can be broken in today's MI vs RCB encounter
Two heavyweights in the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are set to cross swords in the 54th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The much-awaited encounter will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, May 9.
Both teams began their respective campaigns by facing each other in the fifth match in Bengaluru where the RCB defeated MI by eight wickets.
The Rohit Sharma-led unit have played 10 games with five wins and as many losses. With 10 points and a net run rate of -0.454, they are placed in the eighth position on the table.
On the other hand, RCB have also had a similar campaign so far, having won five and losing as many games in 10 outings. They are placed sixth with a net run rate of -0.209.
Every IPL game offers both participating teams a chance to reach certain milestones. Hence, some records are on the verge of being shattered during the upcoming game as well.
On that note, let's take a look at the top three landmarks that could be reached in today's MI vs RCB fixture.
#3 Faf du Plessis could complete 1,000 IPL runs for RCB
The highest run-getter in IPL 2023 so far with 511 runs at an average of 56.7, Faf du Plessis has been extremely prolific for RCB.
Ever since joining the franchise last year, the South African batter has been phenomenal for RCB. Faf, who was entrusted with the captaincy as well, has amassed 979 runs at an average of 40.8 across just 26 innings.
Another 21 runs against MI will take him to 1,000 runs for RCB, thus making him the second-fastest to complete 1,000 runs for RCB. Chris Gayle holds the fastest record, having smashed his 1,000 runs for RCB in 20 innings.
#2 Suryakumar Yadav could complete 3,000 IPL runs
Inarguably India's best T20 batter since last year, Suryakumar Yadav is on the verge of completing his 3,000 IPL runs. The swashbuckling dasher, who is known for his flamboyant strokeplay, has mustered 2,937 runs at an average of 29.9 and at a strike rate of 139.9 across 118 innings.
If the MI star goes on to score at least 63 runs against RCB on Tuesday, he will complete 3,000 runs in his IPL career.
Moreover, Suryakumar has also hit 96 maximums in his IPL career and another four sixes will take him to 100 sixes in the marquee tournament.
#1 Virat Kohli could become the highest run-getter against MI in IPL history
Virat Kohli started his IPL 2023 campaign with a bang, scoring a match-winning 49-ball 82* against the five-time IPL champions. The knock only amplified his great record against MI.
The former RCB skipper has amassed 851 runs at an average of 32.74 and at a strike rate of 128.7 across 30 IPL innings against the five-time champions.
Another 52 runs for Kohli would see him surpass Shikhar Dhawan's tally of 901 runs to become the highest run-getter against MI in IPL.
