IPL 2023: 3 records that can be broken in today's PBKS vs RR fixtureΒ
Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) will clash in Match 66 of IPL 2023 on Friday, May 19, at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, in Dharamsala.
The Kings defeated the Royals by five runs when the two sides met earlier in the reverse fixture in Guwahati. This will be the last league match for both teams before the playoff encounters begin on May 23.
Both PBKS and RR are currently in the race to the playoffs but are dependent on the other teams' results as well.
Every IPL game offers both participating teams a chance to reach certain milestones. Hence, some records are also on the verge of being shattered in this upcoming game as well.
On that note, let's take a look at the top three landmarks that could be reached in today's PBKS vs RR fixture.
#3 Arshdeep Singh could become PBKS' fourth-highest wicket-taker of all time
Arshdeep Singh, who had a superb start to the IPL 2023, could write himself into the history books tonight. If the left-arm pacer bags three scalps against RR, he will become Punjab Kings' fourth-highest wicket-taker of all time in the IPL.
Arshdeep has bagged 56 scalps at an average of 26.9 across 50 innings and is the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the franchise's history. Just ahead of him is Mohammed Shami, who took 58 wickets during his stint with PBKS.
#2 Trent Boult could become the first overseas player to pick up 50 IPL wickets inside the powerplay
Another left-arm pacer who could achieve a superb milestone on Friday is none other than Trent Boult. The Kiwi pacer missed the last game but is expected to come back in the starting XI against Punjab.
Boult is known to pick up wickets with the new ball and put the opposition openers under pressure. So far, the 33-year-old has bagged 49 IPL wickets inside the powerplay.
If Boult manages to scalp another one against PBKS, he will become the first-ever overseas player to bag 50 IPL wickets inside the first six overs of an innings. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Sandeep Sharma are ahead of him on the list with 60 and 53 wickets, respectively.
#1 Yashasvi Jaiswal could become the uncapped player with the most runs in a single IPL season
Yashasvi Jaiswal has been nothing short of phenomenal in IPL 2023. The left-hander has amassed 575 runs at a brilliant average and strike rate of 44.9 and 166.83, respectively. This is already the most runs by an Indian uncapped player in a single IPL campaign.
However, if Jaiswal goes on to score 42 more runs tonight, he will surpass Shaun Marsh to become the uncapped player with the most runs in a single IPL campaign. Marsh, prior to his Australia debut, mustered 616 runs at IPL 2008 for the Punjab Kings.
