IPL 2023: 3 records that can be broken in today's RR vs LSG fixture

Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the top two teams who are at the top of the points table, are set to battle each other in the 26th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The upcoming game will be played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Wednesday, April 19.

RR will play their first game of the season in Jaipur. Their previous two home games were held in Guwahati.

The Sanju Samson-led unit have had a terrific start to their IPL 2023 campaign, winning four of their first five fixtures. Sitting at the top of the points table, Rajasthan will be hoping to continue their winning momentum going.

Lucknow, meanwhile, are not far off from Rajasthan. KL Rahul and Co. are placed second in the table, having won three of their first five fixtures. However, they will enter tonight's game on the back of a defeat against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and will look to get back to winning ways once again.

The upcoming game will also offer players from both franchises a chance to break some records. Here's a look at three records that could be broken in the highly anticipated fixture between RR and LSG.

#3 Jos Buttler could complete 250 fours for RR

One of the most fearsome opening batters in the league, Jos Buttler's hard-hitting exploits are a secret to none. LSG bowlers will hope that Buttler doesn't get into his groove tonight. However, if the English skipper manages to enjoy a start and hits at least three boundaries, he will become only the second-ever RR batter to hit 250 boundaries in the IPL.

So far, Buttler has clobbered 247 boundaries in just 62 innings for the Royals. Former Rajasthan player Ajinkya Rahane, who hit 302 fours during his time with the team, is the only player to hit more than 250 boundaries for the franchise.

#2 Trent Boult could bag his 100th IPL scalp

Another overseas star who will be on the verge of completing a milestone is Trent Boult. One of the most impactful new-ball bowlers going around, the Kiwi international currently has bagged 98 scalps in 82 IPL appearances.

He is just two wickets shy of completing 100 wickets in the cash-rich league. If Boult manages to bag those two required wickets on Wednesday, he will become the joint-fourth fastest bowler to complete 100 IPL wickets.

#1 KL Rahul could complete 7000 T20 runs

After a few low scores at the start of the tournament, KL Rahul finally hit his first IPL 2023 fifty against his former franchise PBKS.

The LSG skipper will be adamant to resume from where he left off in the last game and help his side gain the upper hand against Rajasthan. If the 31-year-old manages to score 53 runs on Wednesday, he will complete 7000 runs in his T20 career.

Having amassed 6,947 runs at an average of 42.3 across 195 innings so far, Rahul could become the fastest Indian to reach the 7000-run mark on Wednesday. Currently, Virat Kohli holds the record as the former Indian skipper took 212 T20 innings to reach the landmark.
