IPL 2023 Orange Cap and Purple Cap standings after Delhi Capitals vs Chennai Super Kings match (Updated)
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) stretched their points tally to 17 in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) with a convincing win over the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, May 20,
CSK won the toss and elected to bat first on a dry surface in Delhi. CSK's opening pair of Ruturaj Gaiwkad and Devon Conway continued their fine run of form with a dominating partnership.
It took DC 14.3 overs to get their first wicket, but by that time, the visitors had amassed 141 runs on the board. Cameos from Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube towards the end of the innings propelled CSK to a mammoth score of 223-3 in the first innings.
DC lost three wickets in the powerplay, with Deepak Chahar striking twice in an over to reduce the hosts to 26-3 at one stage. David Warner led DC's fightback with a solid fifty as wickets tumbled at the other end.
Despite Warner's efforts, DC were nowhere close to the target and ultimately ended up with 146-9 to hand CSK a 77-run victory to boost their net run rate even further.
IPL 2023 Orange Cap updated list
Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 79 runs off 50 deliveries to help CSK get off to a brilliant start and lay down the platform for the rest of the batting unit to capitalize on. The opening batter now has 504 runs in matches and holds the seventh rank in the run charts.
Devon Conway was the top scorer for CSK in the first innings. The left-handed batter scored 87 runs off 52 deliveries to extend his run tally to 585 runs and jump to the third spot in the Orange Cap rankings.
David Warner scored the bulk of runs for DC in their run-chase attempt. The DC skipper scored 86 runs in 58 balls. He finishes his campaign with 513 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 132.90 to be ranked sixth on the list.
IPL 2023 Purple Cap updated list
Ravindra Jadeja conceded 50 runs in his four-over spell and was particularly taken down by the left-handed batters during the run chase. The left-arm spinner claimed the wicket of Yash Dhull and now has 17 wickets for the campaign to be ranked ninth on the wicket-taking chart.
Tushar Deshpande touched the 20-wicket mark for the season after dismissing Prithvi Shaw in the powerplay. The right-arm pacer finished with figures of 1-26 against his former franchise and is now ranked fifth on the IPL Purple Cap list.
