IPL 2023 Points Table: Updated standings after Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) finished last in the IPL 2023 group stages after they endured an eight-wicket loss against the Mumbai Indians (MI). It was the penultimate match of the league stage and was hosted by the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, May 21.

After being put in to bat first, Hyderabad had a dream start. They made wholesale changes which led Mayank Agarwal and Vivrant Sharma to open the innings for SRH.

The duo utilised the excellent batting conditions in Mumbai and put the MI bowlers under pressure. The pair added 140 runs in 83 balls, with Vivrant scoring 69 and Mayank getting to a well-made 46-ball 83.

Akash Madhwal was the best MI bowler on the day as his four wickets helped the Mumbai-based team to mitigate SRH's damage at the back end of the first innings. MI took the first wicket in the 14th over but leaked only 57 runs in the last six overs to restrict the Sunrisers to 200/6.

Mumbai Indians batters made a mockery of the target by hunting down 201 runs in 18 overs. Despite losing Ishan Kishan early in the innings, Rohit Sharma and Cameron Green stood tall and built a 128-run partnership to go within touching distance of the target.

Rohit made his 42nd IPL half-century before getting holed out for 56. Green, however, made most of his start and recorded his maiden IPL ton by hitting the winning runs. The Australian scored 100* off just 47 balls and was the architect of MI's resounding win.

In what was a must-win game for MI, they recorded a plain-sailing victory over a struggling SRH. While they are yet to qualify for the playoffs, the Mumbai Indians are currently sitting fourth on the table with 16 points after their 14 completed games.

It all relies on Match 70 between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

If RCB manages to win their game against table-toppers GT, they will successfully leapfrog MI to book their ticket to the Eliminator against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

However, if GT wins the battle against RCB, Mumbai will automatically go to the next stage. On that note, here is the updated IPL points table:
