IPL 2023: Predicting 3 bowlers who could pick up the most wickets in tonight's KKR vs LSG match
Two crucial points will be up for grabs when the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) host Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 68 of the ongoing IPL 2023. The upcoming fixture will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, May 20.
Having won three of their last four group games, KKR are seventh on the table. They have recorded six wins and have 12 points with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of -0.256. While they are still mathematically alive in the tournament, other results also need to go in their way.
Lucknow, meanwhile, are in a better position than KKR. LSG still have the fortunes in their hands as a win over KKR will seal their place in the playoffs.
Eden Gardens has historically been a ground where the spinners have found success. However, as far as IPL 2023 is concerned, the venue has seen several high-scoring encounters. It remains to be seen how the wicket plays when the two teams, with great spin-bowling options, clash.
On that note, let's take a shot at predicting three bowlers who could pick up the most wickets in today's KKR vs LSG game.
#3 Sunil Narine - KKR
By no means this has been a great IPL campaign for Sunil Narine. The KKR veteran has gone wicketless in eight of the 13 games played this season. However, in the remaining five games, he has picked up nine wickets at a strike rate of 12.6.
Narine showed his class in the previous game against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Chennai. After picking up just one wicket in eight straight games, the Caribbean tweaker dismissed both Ambati Rayudu and Moeen Ali inside one over and showed that he has slowly found his rhythm back.
Narine will bank on his experience of playing at Eden Gardens (59 wickets in 51 innings) and put the LSG batting unit under pressure on Saturday.
#2 Ravi Bishnoi - LSG
Ravi Bishnoi has an uncanny ability to rise to the occasion and the LSG unit has utilized the young leg-spinner as a partnership breaker. Bishnoi has been the team's main weapon for LSG and a standout performer with his impressive wicket-taking ability.
As the leading wicket-taker for his team, Bishnoi has scalped an impressive tally of 14 wickets in 12 innings. Bishnoi’s economy rate of 7.95 indicates his ability to restrict the flow of runs and build pressure on the opposition batsmen.
Additionally, his exceptional strike rate of 18.21 reflects his knack for taking wickets at regular intervals, providing vital breakthroughs for LSG.
#1 Varun Chakravarthy - KKR
Varun Chakravarthy has been the best bowler for the Knight Riders so far in the ongoing tournament. The mystery spinner had a forgettable last season, where he bagged only six scalps in 11 matches. However, Chakravarthy has worked hard on his bowling and his 19 wickets across 13 IPL 2023 innings are a testament to his work rate.
Chakravarthy's battle against Marcus Stoinis, Nicholas Pooran and the underfiring Indian batting group of LSG will all be interesting matchups.
