IPL 2023: Predicting 3 players who will score most runs in today's MI vs RCB clash
The 54th match of IPL 2023 will see the Mumbai Indians (MI) square off against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Wankhade Stadium on Tuesday, May 9.
Both teams have had a mixed campaign so far, with each winning five out of their 10 games. However, RCB are placed sixth in the points table owing to having a better net run rate than eighth-placed MI.
Mumbai went down against the Chennai Super King (CSK) in a low-scoring contest, thanks to another batting failure. If not for Nehal Wadhera's half-century, Rohit Sharma and Co. were in for humiliation after being reduced to 69/4 in 10.3 overs. The youngster scored 64 as MI posted 139 runs on the board, with CSK easily chasing down the target.
The five-time IPL champions were dealt another blow, with Jofra Archer ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to injury. Chris Jordan, who has been with the squad for over a week now, has joined as a replacement and should walk straight into the playing XI as MI look to put their campaign back on track.
RCB, meanwhile, will be losing sleep over their longstanding problem of failing to defend totals. They batted well against the Delhi Capitals (DC) to post 181 runs on the board but their bowlers were smashed all over the park by Phil Salt as the Capitals won the contest. The Royal Challengers need to rejig their bowling and come out all guns blazing against Mumbai.
The Wankhede Stadium has witnessed several high-scoring games already this season, and the batters are likely to relish bating here.
On that note, let's take a look at three players who will score the most runs in today's MI vs RCB clash.
#1 Virat Kohli - RCB
The RCB talisman has been in swashbuckling form in this year's IPL, amassing 419 runs in 10 matches, including six fifties, at an average of 46.56.
Virat Kohli has played an attacking brand of cricket this season and has looked fresh and rejuvenated. The right-handed batter will look to continue his stellar form with the bat as Bangalore's chance of making it to the playoffs hang by the wire.
Kohli enjoys a stellar record at the Wankhede Stadium, scoring 537 runs in 15 matches at an average of 53.70. He will look to add to his tally and lead his side's batting from the front.
#2 Suryakumar Yadav - MI
After a lean patch of form, Suryakumar Yadav is slowly getting into the groove, scoring two half-centuries in the last three games. He has been MI's leading run-scorer over the last few years and Mumbai will want him to continue his form as the tournament reaches its business end.
Suryakumar, who has all shots in his book, will be relishing the prospect of batting at the Wankhede Stadium, which sports short boundaries. The right-handed batter has so far scored 293 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 175.45.
If Suryakumar gets going, the RCB bowlers could be in for a difficult time tonight.
#3 Faf du Plessis - RCB
RCB skipper Faf du Plessis is currently the highest run-scorer in IPL 2023 with 511 runs in 10 matches, including five half-centuries, at a strike rate of 157.71.
With RCB desperate for wins, du Plessis will look to continue his form and lead the team from the front. The South African batter enjoys decent success at the Wankhede Stadium, having scored 575 runs in 17 matches at the venue.
If he gets going on Tuesday, expect du Plessis to play a big knock against Mumbai.
