IPL 2024: 3 records that were broken in SRH's 67-run win vs DC in Match 35

The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) continued their impeccable run-scoring form against the Delhi Capitals (DC), securing a convincing 67-run victory in Match 35 of IPL 2024. This was their fourth win on the trot, solidifying their position at second spot on the IPL 2024 tablepoints table.

The SRH batters put up a staggering total of 266 runs in their 20 overs. Openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head completely tore apart the hosts as they added 131 runs off just 38 balls. They looked set for a 300+ total at one point, but the DC spinners pulled things back a bit.

While the DC chase started brightly with a quick-fire 65 from youngster Jake Fraser-McGurk, the SRH bowlers held their nerve in the death overs. T Natarajan bowled an excellent spell of 4/19, including a three-wicket maiden in the 19th over. As a result, Delhi were restricted to 199, with SRH registering another massive win.

Unsurprisingly, the high-scoring affair saw a slew of records getting broken. Here is a compilation of three of such records:

#3 Highest strike rate in an IPL innings (min 40 runs)

Abhishek Sharma has been a revelation for the Sunrisers in IPL 2024 thus far. It is quite phenomenal for the youngster to match someone like Travis Head toe-to-toe. Incredibly, both Abhishek and Head have operated at an immaculate strike rate of 216 so far this season.

While Head smashed the joint-fastest (16 balls) half-century of IPL 2024, Abhishek narrowly missed out on creating history. He was dismissed after a fiery 12-ball 46 but had a golden opportunity to match Yashasvi Jaiswal's record of the fastest half-century in IPL off 13 balls.

Having said that, Abhishek now holds the record for the best strike rate in an IPL innings by a batter with a minimum of 40 runs.

On Saturday, the 23-year-old struck at a rate of 383.33. Abhishek has now surpassed his captain Pat Cummins' record, who had a strike rate of 373.33 during his knock of 56* (off 15 balls) vs Mumbai Indians in 2022.

On a night where the Delhi Capitals struggled, Jake Fraser-McGurk emerged as the lone bright spot. While established names like David Warner and Rishabh Pant failed to fire, McGurk stole the show with an unbelievable knock.

He reached his fifty off just 15 balls, shattering the previous Delhi Capitals record for the fastest IPL fifty. He broke Chris Morris' record, who got his fifty in 17 balls against a now-defunct Gujarat Lions in 2016.

The SRH openers, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, were on fire against the Capitals. The left-handed duo went berserk, stitching together a record-breaking 131-run partnership off just 38 balls.

Their aggressive batting display left the DC bowlers with no answers. This phenomenal stand rewrote the history books for most runs by a team after powerplay overs in a T20 match.

In IPL, the previous highest powerplay score was set by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) when they hammered 105/0 against RCB in IPL 2017.
