IPL: 4 records held by Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli has been a name synonymous with consistency and excellence in cricket for the past few years. Be it limited-overs or Test cricket, or even IPL, he has been a force to reckon with and would continue to remain so, with his skill and dedication, in the years to come.
While Virat has set the IPL on fire on quite a few occasions in the past, his performance in the ongoing edition, although better than most of his peers, hasn't been up to King Kohli's standards. He has scored 423 runs in 12 innings at an average of 35.25, with a best of 100 against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
But still, here are some records that the current Team India captain holds in the IPL.
(Disclaimer: The records are as per player statistics up to April 29, 2019.)
5371 runs - Most runs in the IPL: He is on top of the list of the most runs scored in the IPL with his 5371 runs off 167 innings at an average of 38.09 and a strike rate of 131.06.
973 runs - Most runs in a single season of the IPL: Virat was at his best in IPL 2016, where he scored a whopping 973 runs in 16 innings at an astounding average of 81.08. He had scored 4 hundreds and 7 fifties on his way to becoming the Orange Cap winner in the season.
229 runs - Highest partnership by runs: With a team boasting of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and the likes of Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum, and Yuvraj Singh in the past, huge partnerships have always been expected of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team, so having the highest partnership by runs from the side comes as no surprise.
Virat got together with AB de Villiers to stitch together a 229-run partnership for the second wicket against the Gujarat Lions in IPL 2016. Virat scored 109, while ABD was unbeaten on 129. The record for the second-highest partnership by runs is also held by the pair, with an unbeaten 215 runs against the Mumbai Indians in the 2015 edition of the IPL.
3 - Most 200+ partnerships in the IPL: There's been a total of four 200+ partnerships in the IPL, and Virat features in three of them. A couple were with AB de Villiers (229 and 215*), and one was with Chris Gayle (204*) against the Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2012. The remaining 200+ partnership was between Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh (206 runs), featuring for the Kings XI Punjab against, ironically, the RCB in IPL 2011.
