IPL 6: Ben Rohrer signed by Delhi Daredevils

Ben Rohrer

After being hit by another injury, Delhi Daredevils have signed Rohrer for the sixth edition of the IPL. The Daredevils’ sporkesperson said that Rohrer was signed as a replacement for Varun Aaron who hasn’t recovered from the stress fracture he suffered last year. Ben Rohrer had been a part of Melbourne Renegades in the Australian Big Bash League.

With Virender Sehwag doubtful for the IPL 6 opener due to back problem, Rohrer certainly has a significant task at hand.

The Daredevils would be more concerned about Virender Sehwag’s absence in their opening clash against Knight Riders. However, though he may not be available, Melborune star Rohrer, alongside his New South Wales teammate David Warner, provides options for Delhi in the batting order.

The 32-year-old Ben Rohrer had success with Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash league, accumulating 295 runs at an average of 49.16.

He also has a good first-class record, compiling 1901 runs in 34 matches, studded with a century on his debut for the Blues against Tasmania in 2006.

He had also been a part of the home T20 series against Windies recently where he made his international Twenty20 debut. Though he scored only 16, the kind of spirit and determination he displayed, bodes well for his future.

Australia’s Mr. Cricket Michael Hussey was impressed with Rohrer’s feat in the Big Bash league. “He’s our most influential player at the moment,” the batsman said. “I couldn’t be more impressed with the way he’s gone about it. He’s definitely good enough to play for Australia and IPL would serve him more.”

He will join his teammate David Warner at Delhi tomorrow morning.

He tweeted after being signed:

Thrilled to be joining Dehli Daredevils for IPL6…bit worried about facing Morne Morkel in the nets though #anytips #throwdownsonly
