IPL 6: CSK vs RR - Quick Flicks of the day

Big totals, great display of batting, first 100 and yet another close finish for CSK. The game between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings had everything that an IPL addict could have asked for. If Shane Watson brought up the first 100 of this edition’s IPL, Chennai Super Kings made light work of a big total. A great match for the spectators that had quite a few interesting points to talk about.

Jason Holder – the Big foot!

@albiemorkel 13 Apr
Hey @discoverychannel. I found Big Foot today. He is in Chennai!

After Ankit Rajpoot and Mohit Sharma, MS Dhoni decided to give another youngster, Jason Holder, a go. Though he looked like an evolved version of the great Joel Garner, his military medium pace was best suited for Watson’s carnage. He didn’t do much with the ball except trying to bounce Dravid, but what was interesting was Albie Morkel’s tweet where he called him ‘the Big Foot’. Looking at the snap above, it seems CSK has finally found one!

Watson show – “Wat” an innings!

A first ball boundary off Mohit Sharma signalled his intentions and the straight six in the next over sent a chill down the CSK fans. Although he bludgeoned the CSK bowlers, Watson was lucky to survive a difficult drop catch, a missed run out and a superb flying effort from Bravo. However, it was an incredible innings to watch from the big Aussie and MS Dhoni must be wishing that ACB hands him back the vice captaincy again before their reverse leg!

Ashwin’s new delivery – another mystery unveiled?

4th ball of the 11th over and India’s mystery man, R Ashwin, sprang up a surprise. If the opposition thought they had his carrom ball figured out, Ashwin churned out a new variation – a back of the hand delivery that resembled Anil Kumble’s googly. The ball came out much slower and Watson, who was taken by surprise, was forced to play out a rare dot ball.

Bravo vs. Chandila – Anybody can dance!

If Bravo thought he was the only contestant auditioning for Dance India Dance, he found an able counterpart in Ajit Chandila. If Bravo displayed his break dancing skills after he deceived Dravid with a superb slower one, Chandila put on his dancing show after snapping up Vijay. Bravo has been showing off his different jigs throughout the tournament but now, with Chandila joining in, it seems he has to think about a few more moves and try a little harder for that “Nayi Soch” award!

Mike Hussey – Just too classy!

“Oye Hussey bas kar yaar…” – that’s exactly what Rahul Dravid must have been thinking as Mike Hussey played yet another classy innings. He may have retired from International cricket but this Aussie just refuses to run out of gas and the yellow jersey brings the best out of him. Even at the age of 37, he’s one of the key players in this Super Kings set up and is perhaps one of the most versatile batsman who can play various roles according to situation. He can not only anchor the innings, but also can go berserk any time he wants.

Jadeja vs RR – the Royal battle!

If the battle on the field was between Sir Ravindra Jadeja and Rajasthan Royals, in the studios there was another Jadeja taking on another RR – Ajay Jadeja and Rochelle Rao. A welcome change from Sidhu’s stale sharayis and ever-so-bored Sameer Kochhar, finally extra innings made good viewing even with the mute button on!

However, the on-field battle didn’t go as expected. 45 runs considered in 3 overs and a second ball duck – that was Sir Jadeja’s contribution on the field today. After a few stunning all round performances last week, Ravindra Jadeja suffered at the hands of the Royals today. If Shane Watson deposited him four times in the stands, Faulkner showed him the way back with a stunning yorker. A rare bad day for Jadeja and one that might feature in the Ripleys’ Believe it or Not Series.

And finally the last over. Dhoni’s helicopter didn’t take off and with 11 to get in the last over, Dravid entrusted Watson with the ball. Morris got a single off the first ball and then Bravo did what he had to. He hit a six over covers and then jogged two twos to overhaul the Royals’ total. As the dug out erupted and ran towards him, guess what he did? No points for guessing this one…the Chakachaka dance to celebrate a fabulous win!
