IPL 6 Final: Mumbai stomps Chennai to lift trophy

The Mumbai Indians defeated the Chennai Super Kings by 23 runs in the final of the sixth edition of the IPL despite a fighting 63 off 45 from the Chennai captain MS Dhoni.

MI lost the big hitting opening pair of Dwayne Smith and Aditya Tare early on and then found themselves in deep trouble with the score on 16. However, a big hitting counter-attack from Ambati Rayudu and Kieron Pollard propelled Mumbai to a challenging 148  for 9 wickets. Pollard went berserk as he hammered seven fours and three sixes in a 32-ball 60.

The Chennai Super Kings found themselves in big trouble right from the start as Rohit Sharma sent out Malinga, Johnson and Harbhajan, who hammered any resistance into the ground on the way to picking up 6 wickets between them.

Even a herculean effort from MS Dhoni, who came in at number seven and hammered a 45-ball 63, hitting 3 fours and five sixes, could not save them and it was too much to do for one man, even though that man was the Indian captain. And even though the final ball of the innings sailed into the stands, it was the Mumbai Indians who were celebrating.
