IPL 6: Match 45 – CSK vs KXIP – A statistical preview
In the 11 matches played between these two franchises, Chennai Super Kings have dominated as they lead Kings XI Punjab 7-4. However, after 2011, KXIP have ruled this tie, winning three out of their four matches against CSK.
When these two teams clashed earlier this season at Mohali, CSK thumped KXIP, registering a ten wicket victory.
Ravindra Jadeja is only 29 runs short of conceding 1000 runs in the IPL. He will join the company of players to have scored and conceded more than 1000 runs in the tournament. The list includes Yusuf Pathan, Jacques Kallis, Irfan Pathan and Shane Watson.
Ravichandran Ashwin’s bowling average of 44 against Kings XI is his worst average against any team in the IPL. His strike rate of 40.50 against the same opposition is also his worst among teams in the IPL; certainly R Ashwin does not enjoy playing against KXIP.
Suresh Raina has been dismissed by Piyush Chawla three times in IPL so far. The only other bowler to have dismissed him on more occasions is Dwayne Bravo who incidentally is now Raina’s team-mate.
Chennai seems to be a happy hunting ground for Kings XI Punjab as they have the best record here among all the teams that have played at the venue; the visitors have won two of their three matches at the Chepauk, which translates to a success rate of 66.67%. CSK in the meantime have won 25 of their 38 IPL matches at home which gives them a success rate of 65.79%.
What’s next in store for teams: MS Dhoni and his team will take on Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on May 5.
Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab travel back home to host Royal Challengers Bangalore the following day.
