IPL 6: Match 63 – RCB vs KXIP – A statistical preview

Kings XI Punjab will head into this match with a slight advantage as they have not only defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in the last two matches but overall too, they are ahead with a 6-5 win-loss ratio against their opponents.

When the two teams met earlier in the season at Mohali, RCB did well to post the target of 190, thanks to half-centuries from Cheteshwar Pujara and Chris Gayle but were blown away by David Miller’s 38-ball hundred.

The average score in the first innings at matches held at Bangalore this season is 167. In the previous match at Bangalore, Chris Gayle registered himself into the record books with an unbeaten 175 and helped his team to 263 – the highest-ever total in T20 cricket.

Chris Gayle is only one run short of 1000 T20 runs in this calendar year. This will be the third successive occasion that the Jamaican has scored 1000 plus runs in T20 cricket in a single calendar year.

David Hussey, with 210 T20 games till date, is second on the list of players who have played the most number of matches in the shortest format of the game. Albie Morkel heads the list with 222 games.

Chris Gayle needs 32 runs more to score 1000 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. In IPL only CSK’s Suresh Raina has scored more than 1000 runs at a particular venue; he has to his credit 1158 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

What’s next in store for teams: Royal Challengers Bangalore will finish off their league commitments with a home tie against Chennai Super Kings on May 18.

Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab will head to their other home ground in Dharamsala, to host the Delhi Daredevils on May 16.
