IPL 6: PWI vs DD: Heroes of the day

Pune put on a show for their fans as they consigned Delhi into last place. Luke Wright‘s murderous assault, the all round effort from Matthews, a captain’s knock from Finch and Murtaza’s spin ensured that the Pune fans kept on roaring till the end. Delhi were left deaf as well as stunned by the Pune assault.

Luke Wright

The Englisman led a murderous assault on the Delhi bowlers as he plundered 44 off just 23 balls, ensuring that Jayawardene was left scratching his head for answers. When he left after getting out, he had brought Pune out of the mire with their heads held high. He was so relaxed that he even found time to rib Danny Morrison about New Zealand’s capitulation at Lord’s.

Angelo Mathews

The Lankan captainĀ helped Luke Wright in the batting, chipping in with 30 not out off 22, hitting 2 sixes. He then broke Delhi’s tail, sending Irfan Pathan, Gautam and Morkel running scared into the changing rooms. His former boss, the rival captain, was left holding his head in his hands as Angelo ensured Pune went out on a high.

Aaron Finch

The hard-hittingĀ Australian ensured that Pune got off to a good start and then took revenge on Yadav for removing his opening partner, hammering him for 17 in one over. The Pune captain ensured that Pune had a solid base from where they could launch an attack on the Delhi bowling. He then marshalled his troops on the field and used his bowlers to perfection, shutting down Delhi’s top heavy batting line up with ease.

Ali Murtaza

The spinner seems to have put the beat-down he took from Gayle at the back of his mind and spun a web around the Delhi top order, dismissing Jayawardene, Chipli and Sehwag with ease. Delhi barely managed to touch him and he only gave 15 off his four overs.
