IPL - 6 Schedule released

The sixth season of the IPL is all set to kick off on the 3rd of April at the Eden Gardens between home team Kolkata Knight Riders and the Delhi Daredevils. The format however, remains the same with every one of the nine teams playing each other on home and away basis.

Amidst all the controversy that the Deccan Chargers were surrounded by, there is a new team that had risen from the ashes – Sunrisers! The Hyderabad team that was bought by Sun Network for 85.05 crore per year for the next 5 years, is the second most expensive team in the IPL after the Sahara Pune Warriors. The brand ambassador of the team is the local boy – VVS Laxman while Krishnamachari Srikkanth will be mentor and strategic analyst. Kings XI Punjab’s former coach, Tom Moody was named coach of the Sunrisers.

The Sunrisers have retained 20 of the Deccan Chargers’ players: Kumar Sangakkara (captain), Cameron White, Dale Steyn, Chris Lynn, Jean-Paul Duminy, Juan Theron, Abhishek Jhunjunwala, Akash Bhandari, Akshath Reddy, Amit Mishra, Anand Rajan, Ankit Sharma, Bharat Chipli, Biplab Samantray, Shikhar Dhawan, Veer Pratap Singh, Parthiv Patel, Ashish Reddy, DB Ravi Teja and Ishant Sharma. The team is looking at picking up some Pakistani players in the auction that would be held sometime in February, citing the need of allrounders. The Sunrisers kick off their maiden campaign with a home-game against the Pune Warriors on April 5th.

The preliminary-round will end on May 19th and the top 4 teams will then head into the playoffs. The Eliminator and the Qualifier will be played on the 21st and 22nd of May, respectively, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

KXIP will play their last two home games at the HPCA Stadium in Dharmashala, like in the previous seasons. Also, the newly-constructed stadium at Ranchi – the JSCA International Stadium will host KKR’s last two games.

The next set of auction will be held on the 3rd of February.
